Kate recycles two dresses for Zara Phillips' royal wedding weekend

Kate, Duchess of Cambridge wore the same cream coat at Zara Phillips' wedding, left, and Laura Parker Bowles' 2006 wedding, second left. She also wore the same green dress to Phillips' pre-wedding party, second right, and a Los Angeles event, right.

(CBS) Royal watchers got a sense of deja-vu over the weekend when the Duchess of Cambridge recycled two outfits from her wardrobe for Zara Phillips' wedding celebrations in Scotland.

On Friday, Kate arrived to a pre-wedding yacht party wearing a green silk "Maja" dress by Diane Von Furstenberg that she also wore during an event in Los Angeles earlier this month.

The duchess wore the dress when she and Prince William attended a reception at the British Consul-General's residence during their three-day trip to the area.

For Phillips' wedding the next day at Edinburgh's Cannongate Kirk, Kate wore a cream-colored coat dress paired with a matching angled hat and nude heels. She wore the same frock five years ago, to Laura Parker Bowles' wedding in 2006. That time, she topped the outfit with a festive fascinator and chose different heels.

The duchess has recycled outfits before - during her tour of Canada with William, she wore same the cream Reiss dress that she sported for her official engagement portrait last year. On that same trip, while at a reception for young Canadians, she wore a black and white dress wrap dress by Issa decorated with a pattern of birds - the same dress she wore upon arriving to London's Goring Hotel on the eve of her wedding day.

I gues I have "recycled" my clothes every week for a long time. Some of us can't afford to wear it only once!

Personally, i think she did just right. She had her weekend. This was Zara Phillips' day. If she had worn something new and by such and such fashion designer, it would have taken away from what's supposed to be the real star of the show... THE BRIDE!

And this is news because??? Seriously guys. So these people are only allowed to wear their clothes once and toss them? Crazy. Seems like both of them have more sense to them that any of their counterparts past or present. They make the whole aristocracy a little less embarrasing. I feel sorry for them in some ways- William was born into this circus and I think he realizes how ridiculous it all is but plays the game with dignity and respect for others. I think she has lead a somewhat normal life in the past so she probably wants to continue some of that. To me they are just two people- wish them happiness and for people to leave them alone in matters like this article. My only hope is they use their position of influence to positively impact the world around them. But then again we all can- don't have to be a member of the aristocracy for that.

I think it's great that she has worn the same clothes. People are always whining about others that flaunt the fact that they have money when the economy is so bad.

Sorry, jt92202, my bad. Maybe she should just not wear it to weddings and other "high-profile" events more than once. I'm not getting on her back about this--I hope you understood this from my initial response.

Prince William is just an officer in the Royal Air Force. He, like all his fellow officers, is not made of money. His wife understands that.

I do agree that this is "non-news" worthy. However, I think the Duchess might wait a little longer between wearing the same dresses; then, no one but the "fashionistas" would notice. Also, she might wait until England's ungodly chilly and wet winter sets in. Then, she could add a sweater or a vest to create an entirely different look. Oh, heck. It doesn't really matter. I'm just spouting my opinion--I have yet to be asked to be Catherine's stylist! At least she's not robbing the Kingdom blind for the sake of fashion.

One of the dresses, cream jacket dress, was last wore in 2006, how long should she wait before she wears an outfit? She would have to have 1820 outfits not to wear the same one for 5 years!! She wore that dress with different shoes and accessories. All of this is just petty gossip and someone trying to make her look bad! I think it's discusting to put this young woman in the same place they put Diana way back when!!! The media is too full of themselves!! And who on earth actually takes notes of what people wear, maybe they should worry more about what they look like and leave everyone else alone!!!
