(CBS) Jesse James and Kat Von D have broken off their engagement.

"I am no longer w Jesse," Von D confirmed on her Twitter account, "and out of respect for him, his family and myself, thats all the info I'd like to share. Thanks for respecting that."

The motorcycle mogul and the "LA Ink" star, who announced their engagement in January, had reportedly been planning a summer wedding.

Distance was a factor in the breakup, James told People magazine on Tuesday.

"I'm so sad because I really love her," he said. "The distance between us was just too much."

Von D (whose real name is Katherine Von Drachenberg) shoots her reality show in Los Angeles, while James lives in Austin, Texas, with his three children, Chandler, 16, Jesse Jr., 14, and Sunny, 7.

Last month, James and Von D shot down speculation that they had split, calling the rumors "absolutely not true."

The pair began dating last summer, after the collapse of James' marriage to actress Sandra Bullock following revelations that he cheated on her. Their divorce was finalized in June 2010.

Naturally we are all shocked and saddened...oh, sorry, I just can't keep a straight face. They deserved each other but it's a surprise their relationship lasted this long. Jesse has enough money left to buy "affection" for years to come, so why should he interrupt other people's lives by trying have relationships?

I still don't get what Sandra Bullock saw in him. During his interview with Piers Morgan on CNN he proclaimed over and over again that Kat was the "love of his life". They understood each other like no other love he had before. Without saying it directly, most of his comments sounded like it was Sandra's fault for what he did.. Bottom line.. this doesn't surprise me. He was trying to sell something I wasn't buying in that interview.

Relationships are one of the most difficult things in life, including divorce and the death of a loved one within your family. I like Kat Von D.., Kat is intelligent and bright, beautiful inside and out and talented in many areas, including art and music. A woman with morals, talent, and grace that any red blooded american man would literally sacrifice anything and everything to be able to call her his own. So you wanna be like a Hollywood star?
