Jennifer Love Hewitt to join "Law & Order: SVU" cast?

/ Getty(CBS) Jennifer Love Hewitt is reportedly being eyed by NBC to replace Mariska Hargitay on the hit show "Law & Order: SVU," but that doesn't mean Hargitay is leaving the show.
Contracts are being renewed and according to Deadline.com, Hargitay's character will be promoted to a supervisor position, with Hewitt taking her place as Det. Elliot Stabler (Christopher Meloni)'s partner.

It wouldn't be "The Ghost Whisperer" star's first time on the show. She guest-starred in a memorable performance last fall.
At this time, Meloni still hasn't finalized his contract, and is supposedly asking for more money.
Hargitay asked to lighten her work load this season, which the network reportedly granted. She will continue as a detective until the promotion, which will likely free up more time for the actress to be with her growing family. Hargitay adopted a daughter, Amaya, last month.

- I must say that if Benson (Mariska Hargitay) is replaced, I will stop watching this show. Something about the chemistry between her and Stabler (Chris Meloni) keeps me drawn to the show. (I wasn't much into the show when Hargitay was on maternity leave and was replaced with Connie Nielsen at all -- the show seemed to "forced" at that point to me.) The dynamic they share is part of what makes the show so good. By all means, yes, Hewitt is a good actress; but, SVU is not "The Ghost Whisperer" and even if she could use some of those dramatic talents in SVU, it would be better served as an ADA than a detective (After all, what is Melissa Sagemiller's character even doing? You barely see the ADA doing anything anymore with the unit, so its more "Order" than "Law and Order".) nevertheless, supervisor or not, if she is not a main character, I'm done with the show for good, even the reruns on USA. Just one fan's opinion.
