Kim Cattrall, "The Kids are All Right" honored by GLAAD
(CBS) "Sex and the City" actress Kim Cattrall and the 2010 Oscar-nominated film "The Kids are All Right" were among several winners at the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation's 22nd annual Media Awards on Saturday.
Cattrall, who plays Samantha Jones in HBO's "Sex and the City," received GLAAD's Golden Gate Award for increasing the visibility of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community.
"The Kids are All Right," a story about a lesbian couple whose lives are disrupted when their adopted children seek out their sperm donor dad, won the outstanding film award.
"The Kids are All Right" stars Julianne Moore and Annette Benning as a lesbian couple, as well as Mark Ruffalo as the sperm donor their children seek out and attempt to form a relationship with, and was nominated for four Oscars earlier this year, including Best Picture.
Other winners at Saturday's event included the documentary "8: The Mormon Proposition" and Christian Chavez as Spanish-language music artist.
The corporate leader award went to AT&T, which has LGBT inclusive policies for its employees, according to Reuters.
The Hollywood Reporter notes that the GLAAD Media Awards honor media for accurate and inclusive representations of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender communities.
The awards ceremony took place in San Francisco and was hosted by "Glee" star Naya Rivera.
Honorees from GLAAD's previous events from March 19 in New York and April 10 in Los Angeles included Ricky Martin, Kristin Chenoweth, Russell Simmons, NBC Universal's Robert Greenblatt as well as "30 Rock" and "True Blood." Reuters adds that "Glee" and "Modern Family" tied for GLAAD's best TV comedy series at April's event.
