Wiz Khalifa's "Rolling Papers" released today

(CBS) Wiz Khalifa's album "Rolling Papers" hit shelves today, and the reviews for the Pittsburgh-based rapper's major label debut have been (no pun intended) rolling in.

Here's what some of them had to say:

Rolling Stone's Jon Dolan wrote that the 23-year-old rapper "manages to give life to those kinds of cash-gorged perma-baked cliches by warmly luxuriating in the space between pop's fresh-faced exuberance and hip-hop's easy arrogance - between skater and playa, Bieber and Biggie."

Spin gave the album a six out of 10, adding that it "embraces the doggedly one-note approach of the numerous mixtapes that built his substantial following."

The Washington Postcalled "Papers" "a hip-hop album for people who didn't think they liked hip-hop albums." The review goes on to say that if you've only heard Khalifa's chart-topper "Black and Yellow," then you haven't heard his best work.

Entertainment Weekly gave the album a B+ grade. "The Pittsburgher's debut on Atlantic is lyrically limited to getting high, stealing chicks, and blowing cash," Brad Wete wrote. "Yet it burns with an underdog's passion and a champion's spite."

USA Today gave the album two and a half stars, and the reviewer wrote that the album was "only somewhat worth the wait."

"The only problem is that there are only so many clever ways to describe the hedonism," the article adds. "It's entertaining for a while, but eventually the pleasure starts getting lost in the haze."
