Bret Michaels is Engaged to Kristi Gibson

NEW YORK (CBS) Bret Michaels is engaged.

The rocker, who is facing heart surgery, proposed to his on-off girlfriend of 16 years, Kristi Gibson, during the finale of his reality show, "Bret Michaels: Life as I Know It" on Monday night.

Michaels, 47, got down on one knee and asked Gibson, 39, "to be my wife. Please say yes or the rejection will kill me right now."

The first thing the pair did after Gibson said yes was to tell their daughters, Raine, 10, and Jorja, 5, the big news.

"I did it! We'll all be together forever! Family hug!" the rocker told them, according to People.

Michaels, who suffered a near-fatal brain hemorrhage in April, acknowledged that Gibson stood by him during tough times.

"Kristi - she's the one who put up with me all these years," he said.
