Prince William Engagement Announced on Twitter
NEW YORK (CBS) Gone are the days of making official announcements with pomp and circumstance. British royalty took to Twitter to announce Prince William and Kate Middleton's engagement, proving that the British royals can be tech savvy as the average citizen.
Clarence House, the royal home, tweeted the highly anticipated news, saying, "The Prince of Wales is delighted to announce the engagement of Prince William to Miss Catherine Middleton."
While Prince William's father, Prince Charles, announced the engagement on his official website, Clarence House was the first to break the news that Prince William had officially sealed the long anticipated deal.
The Queen of England didn't flutter far behind on Twitter. At 84, with her own Twitter account, she tweeted her congratulations.
Prince Charles is new to the world of Twitter; he just joined on Monday and his son's engagement news was only the seventh tweet on his profile.
His mother, the queen, has been on Twitter for much longer, with more than 4,600 tweets on the British Monarchy profile. She also has a Facebook page, where she received congratulatory messages today on news of her grandson's engagement, according to AOL.More on the royal engagement:
