Michael Douglas to Undergo Treatment for Throat Tumor

NEW YORK (CBS) Michael Douglas has a tumor in this throat, doctors have discovered.

Douglas' spokesperson told People magazine on Monday that the Oscar-winner will undergo eight weeks of radiation and chemotherapy, and his doctors expect him to make a full recovery.

"I am very optimistic," Douglas said in a statement, according to the report.

The actor's next film, "Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps," arrives in theaters on September 24.

My husband was diagnosed with a base of tongue tumor a year ago and told it was curable with 6 weeks of radiation. Well, 9 weeks of chemo later, with the chemo turning his mouth to hamburger, THEN 6 weeks of being secured to a table for radiation treatments which burnt him so badly he couldn't eat or drink and needed a GI tube. It's one of the most painful and potentially disfiguring cancers and treatments. People have no idea of what is at stake. I sure wish him well. Guess this is where he sees what he is made of physically and spiritually.; Reply to this comment

I kicked cancer 20 years ago... you will too. Look at your dad... he's a tough ole bird and so are you!
