NEW YORK (CBS) Justin Bieber may have met the president, but he's not one of the artists on the Commander-in-Chief's iPod.

President Obama's musical tastes were just one of the lighter things talked about during his appearance on "The View."

After the first part of the interview dealt with jobs, the economy and the war in Afghanistan, the "View" co-hosts moved the conversation towards less heavy topics - like his taste in music.

"You name a song, I've got it," President Obama said. "I've got Jay-Z on there, I got Frank Sinatra on there, Maria Callis..."

But when Joy Behar mentioned Justin Bieber, he responded, "I do not have Justin Bieber on there."

The interview also tested his pop culture knowledge - the president said he knew Lidnsay Lohan was in jail, but sidestepped a question about Mel Gibson's latest troubles ("I haven't seen a Mel Gibson film in a while") and claimed to not know who Snooki was -- though others have pointed out the president did reference the "Jersey Shore" star in a joke at the White House Correspondent's Dinner back in May.

The president also talked technology, saying that while he has his Blackberry, the 10 people who have his e-mail address are careful what they send him.

"Nobody wants to send me the real juicy stuff," he said. "It's all very official."

His recent vacation with his family in Maine was another topic of conversation - he said it was the "rose," or highlight, of his past month.

"We went on bike rides and hikes," he said. "You know, the girls are getting old enough now where they're not quite teenagers yet, so they still like you. But they're full of opinions and ideas and observations and it's just a great age. Malia just turned 12 and Sasha just turned 9.And it couldn't have been a better couple of days."

And he didn't resist an opportunity to poke fun at himself, either.

When the show returned from a commercial break, a clip of his 2008 election victory speech was played. His first comment when it was over: "Can I just point out - I don't have as much gray here in that clip."

Inadvertent cultural commentary: all day this article has had the corect spelling of the names of Snooki and Justin Bieber, but not Maria Callas, one of the great musical artists of the 20th century.

President Obama's appearance on The View was disheartening. No wonder the rest of the world is laughing at us. I want a President whom I can respect and appearing on a show with 5 stupid, gossiping women does not gain my or the rest of the world's respect. I do not want my President, be it Obama, Bush, Clinton, etc. or anyone who is seeking the office (e.g. Sarah Palin) on a stupid show like this nor on Saturday Night Live. My confidence in them just goes right out the window. I do not understand why anyone even watches The View. Why does anyone even care about the opinions of these 5 women? Shows just how much trouble our country is in.

All of these people that are saying we made mistake when WE THE PEOPLE of the UNITED STATES chose President Obama, are just crazy, he has done more in his 18 months than Bush and Clinton did in their 12 yrs together. When he took office there was already two 2 wars going on, enron had robbed all their investors blind, banks had already closed, hundreds of thousands of people had already lost their jobs, car companies where already going bankrupt, what can he do about the oil spill??? that's just plain ignorance, he is not god!! So how did so how did Pres.Obama ruin the country. NOT!!!! PEOPLE ARE TO BUSY LISTENING TO FOX NEWS AND THE TEA PARTY. IT'S LIKE INVASION OF THE MARTIANS ALL OVER AGAIN, MASS HYSTERIA!! It Makes no sense!God gave us all minds to think with we need to think for ourselves. Pres. Obama is trying to help everyone. There is millions of people with ot insurance and if you have insurance God forbid you get sick and have a lre hospital bill they will drop you or rais your premium so high you can't afford it anyway. At My job our insurance has went up every year for 10 ys.straight. All you critics out there wait until you get sick and see what your ins. companies do to you.

I think it is sad that some Americans can be so judgmental when it comes to a Black President. Regan did not attend the Boy Scout Jamboree, but no one remembers that. President Obama attends the View instead of the Boy Scout Jamboree and now he is the worst person in the world. People should remember that his country was a mess before he was in office and he is doing a good job.

President Reagan did not have the chance to attend a Jamboree that was specifically moved back a year to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of Scouting in America. Obama did have a chance to attend the Centennial Jamboree but chose not to. He could have gone on The View any time. He only has a handful of days to make a memory in the lives of over 40,000 boys who would always remember the day they saw the president. It has nothing to do with being black, white, or purple with yellow polkadots and you trying to play the race card where it clearly doesn't belong is nothing but prejudice. The furor is about an extremely poor decision and putting popularity before making a memory for thousands of youths.

Obama is NOT doing a good job and he does not belong on a trashy show like The View. It has nothing to do with the fact that he is "black". I am too.

I am proud of President Obama. There is nothing wrong with him being on the View. People can't expect him to fix something that was already broken when he came into office.

President Obama was able to relax, enjoy good company, and explain some of the Administration's accomplishment. Great job! Please continue to communicate with the American people to dispel the myths that nothing is being done. Unfortunately for Elizabeth, she couldn't cut the political attacks and relax long enough to truly listen and learn. Thank you, Mr. President, for being yourself--positive, intelligent, focused, and truly personable.

Good for him. People need to be reminded that he is a person. He needs to be social. If he wants to spend 20 minutes of out his day talking about normal things BESIDES HIS FREAKING JOB then fine by me!!!

Who actually talks about work outside of oh... I don't know. Work!? You guys need to get off your high horse and let the man have a moment to be normal and not the Superman you keep demanding he become.
