Matt Passmore of A&E's "The Glades"

NEW YORK (CBS) For a network that carries dark and grim shows like "Intervention" and "Hoarders," Sunday's premiere of "The Glades" was a breath of fresh air for A&E.

Unlike other popular shows in the same genre, "The Glades" is surprisingly funny thanks to its wise-cracking lead character.

In the premiere episode, we meet Jim Longworth, a transplanted Chicago detective who is attractive and self-confident, with an extreme love for the game of golf.

After being wrongfully accused of sleeping with his former captain's wife, Longworth, who is played by Australian actor Matt Passmore, is forced to leave the department.

He then finds himself  in Palm Glade, Fla., where he joins the local State Police, thinking it would be an easy gig. But, he quickly realizes that his job will be a lot more taxing than he initially thought and hoped.

"The Glades" airs on Sundays at 10 p.m. on A&E.

Geez people- lighten up,. This is a TV show not a documentary. I think that Matt Passmore does a great job with the material. I can't say as I care for his weird girlfriend, the nurse, and think he should have a new partner in romance but the stories are entertaining and often funny. I hope The Glades stays on for another season. It is much better than some of the tripe on prime time.

I wanted to like this series but it is just too preposterous. Hooking up with the nurse was totally unbelievable. Actually, the whole series is too stupid. This can all be blamed on dumb as rocks Hollywood idiots.

I can give them a lot of artistic and scientific license if the keep things. And they generally do.
My main gripe is about Callie:
1. She is a nurse who works everywhere in the hospital, with no supervision. And all shifts!
2. She has an annoying nasal voice.
3. She mumbles. Get her a voice coach, or kill her off. (I would prefer the latter.)
4. She has a husband in prison. Come on writers! Haven't you ever seen Dexter?

I LIKE IT. You people who pick everything apart just enjoy yourselves at your nit picking and let the rest of us enjoy interesting plots with an intriguing man leading us through them. I will continue to watch and think others will watch THE GLADES as the writers endear us to the charactors and make this a big hit.

Forget the setting and use a little imagination. I live in North Carolina & everytime they try a southern accent or try to immulate a setting they get it wrong. BUT, this show is a breath of fresh air, so like the Mentalist which my husband & I love. He is quirky, funny and unique. My hubby is real life retired law enforcement as many of my family, but if we based each show on that, we'd never watch TV.
I love this show!!!

I thought I was going to be getting a treat and instead I was tricked. The whole show feels like a cheap knock-off other successful shows already out such as The Mentalist, White Collar or House. The trend of having "unorthadox" and egocentric lead characters is becoming overused in televison. The disturbingly stalker-like behavior of the Jim Longsworth left me feeling bad his romantic interest and slightly naseous. His arrogance and over all abrasiveness couldn't compensate for the wooden delivery of the lines.

Maybe, as the character develops the show will be less painful to watch. I will try to catch the next episode that airs, but I can't see myself going out of my way to watch this series.

Every character is overly cocky, arrogant and irresponsible, including kids. Who needs to see junk like this on TV. Instead of having the main character tell us how great and perfect he is at his job, let it be obvious by his actions and abilities (it's called acting the part). I won't be watching this show.

The writing on this show was puerile. From the beginning it made no sense, as others have pointed out. Sleeping in the Glades with the sunroof and windows open? hahahahaha! The girl looked to be the dumbest person on the face of the earth. Her boyfriend is loudly barfing his guts out ten feet away and she can?t figure out where he is! On top of that, she honks the horn because she is late! The relationship between the boy and her was so ludicrous and ancillary: it wasn't even an interesting issue... and the girl looked and acted like she was 25!
We're informal in Florida but the lead cop in a T-shirt was just stupid and insulting. Almost all of the dialogue was just stupid. The only thing I can think of is the writers were the sons or daughters of the producer. The writing was that infantile. Maybe someone should research how alligators eat. This alligator somehow swallowed the head and left the body! Just for background, alligators take large pieces of meat and store them in some place, like under an embankment where it rots so they can tear the soft pieces off. They don?t chew!
This show is in a great time slot, the background could be really interesting and yet someone is making it the dumbest program on TV. I hope the producers can get their act together and find some real writers as well as someone who actually knows something about southern Florida. This was an inauspicious beginning.
