NEW YORK (CBS/AP) U.S. tennis star Venus Williams set tongues wagging in France Sunday when she played in the French Open in Paris in a black corset-style outfit usually found on the dance floor instead of the tennis courts.

PICTURES: Venus Williams Outfit Shocker

Williams, 29, drew whistles when she appeared on the court in Paris in a lacy, red-trimmed, black outfit with a corset-like top and a tutu skirt that gave the illusion of being see-through. Can-Can, anyone?

The design -trained , top -seeded player player , who has her own fashion called EleVen , told the press it was all "about illusion."

And yes, Williams , who is currently ranked No. 2 in the world, did win the first-round match against to Switzerland's Patty Schnyder, 6-3, 6-3.

When a women dresses this way it is simply a desire for attention. What else? She seems to want attention, good or bad. Her sister is the favored one, the pretty one. Venus' behavior is sad and revealing; she has low self esteem; she will take whatever she can get as long as it is attention. She has no fashion sense. She reveals her cellulite, so she obviously has no true sense of what her body looks like. She has taken this sport and bulldozed it over with her will and way, which would be fine if her will and way was lofty and altruistic, but it's not. It shows an angry little girl, acting out family dysfunctions, looking for attention. Acting like a spoiled child, demanding we accept her look, her way, pushing aside decorum and tradition, stomping her feet, she gets attention. Now we are treated to innuendos of her sexual organs. Lovely. If she believes for one minute that people are rapt with joy when they see her coming she is strongly mistaken. Nor do they respect her. Her presence, a reminder of "The Emperor's New Clothes".

Now if she gets called for a foot fault, and tells the linesman where to stick the ball, she can show her.

If She wears that costume at Wimbledon the officials may disqualify her London derriere.

She appeared to be wearing a bustier over a G-string.She ignored the little boy who kept running up to her with a towel to cover her rear end.

The solution is simple.
Impose 5 or 6 standard outfits and have the players choose.

this is why she wore this at the french open not the us open. the french arent as uptight as americans they get the nod to their culture. besides, when you win as much as she does you can wear what you like. unlike bethanie mattek-sands who's weak game is only amplified by her crazy outfits...
