Jindal: Obama should "stop campaigning" on sequester

President Obama needs to "stop campaigning" and stop trying to "scare" people over the looming sequester cuts, Gov. Bobby Jindal, R-La., said today.

Jindal and other members of the National Governors Association met with Mr. Obama today to discuss the sequester cuts, set to kick in on Friday. The automatic cuts will slash around $85 billion from the federal budget this year and $1.1 trillion more over the next 10 years, and most agree they'll have a harmful impact on the economy. Jindal maintained, however, that it's possible to cut less than 3 percent of the budget without having "devastating consequences."

"It's time for the president to show leadership," he said outside the White House, accompanied by other governors. "Every governor here has had to balance their budget during tough economic times, every family has to balance their budget... The reality is it can be done. It can be done without jeopardizing the economy, it can be done without jeopardizing critical services."

Mr. Obama has called on Congress to replace the sequester cuts with a "balanced" package of spending cuts and new tax revenues, achieved by closing tax loopholes. Jindal said Mr. Obama should instead send Congress a prioritized list of spending reductions that preserves critical services.

"This administration has an insatiable appetite for new revenues," Jindal, who's considered a possible 2016 presidential candidate, said. "Enough's enough. Now's the time to cut spending. It can be done without jeopardizing critical services."

Why do the Republicans always find and use some obscure witless member to go out and spin/sputter 'oh how bad is Obama'?
First Sarah Palin, then Bachmann from Minnesota, now this bucket-head from Louisiana.
After trashing the economy of Louisiana, with tax cuts and spending,he's talking?

Jindal is right!! Obama likes to hear himself talk and blame others for his failures!! The Sequester is 2 cents on every dollar. It won't be missed. Former Gov. Barber of Miss. said he cut 9 cents of every dollar one year and they never even missed it. "Obamascare" is one of his tatics. It was his ideal in the first place and he tried to lie out of it and Bob Woodard and others called him out on it and now he whining and crying for help so he won't look like the fool that he is!!!! Obama has NO IDEAL how to run a country!! He will bankrupt us, but that is his goal to make us a socialist marxist country. He is a narcissistic argorant person.

Here is a good example of just how ridiculous the Republiclowns minds are. They complain about the federal government having to create jobs and then start whining about cutting the jobs the military creates. You can't make this stuff up. You have to see the wacko madness of the right wing in action.

Here is another example of why Republicons are so stupid: they actually want to radically change America so it is run by giant billionaire owned corporations.

Even after the corporations purchased the "democratically elected" government and crashed the country, they continue to back Wall Street over Main Street. This goes against their own wallets.

That does not seem too smart to me.

Jindal has a lot of nerve. He is Louisiana's governor, but since being elected he has run from state to state for every republican campaign stop and every big republican meeting. That is what Jindal does while coming up with all of ALEC's policies to inflict on the people of Louisiana. President Obama can do as he pleases. It pleases me that he is making sure that more Americans realize just how horrible the sequester cuts will be to every American in some way. Republicans have started one crisis after another and harmed this country and then have the audacity to point their rotten fingers at others.

Folks tend to listen to politicians talk, as opposed to watching what they do. Why someone would choose that option, I don't know... It seems a bit uh... well, masochistic.

... and it can be downright confusing. If you listen to them talk, you think "the Republicans" want a small, unobtrusive government and "the Democrats" want to help the poor.

Watching what they do, you're not likely to think such things. Thinking such things only comes from listening to them talk.

In a couple of days, these so-called "two parties" will sign a last minute "save the country" deal. One might wonder how so much pork could have feasibly been negotiated overnight... but hey, maybe they uh... worked late... There ya go ..Congress might work late.

And one would assume that Republicans might have less pork than Democrats... just due to the way they talk...but the truth of their actions will be there.

This "stop the sequester" emergency legislation will be the biggest, most pork filled fiasco since the Taxpayer Relief Act of 2012

Which is the last time Congress must have worked late to negotiate all that pork.

peter,

Yup, you can hold the republicans accountable as long as obama accepts responsibility for his failed spending (stimulus) campaigns.
Somehow I don't think that will really happen most likely because he will be yelling "Bush did it! Bush did it! Bush did it!

His ranting and raving about it's always Bush's fault is very simular to the chanting done in Germany in the twenties and thirties. The idea behind that approach was "If you tell a lie long enough and loud enough, people will believe it".

This "president" hasn't accepted responsibility for anything gone wrong in HIS administration. Remember, NOBODY is perfect.

What really turns my stomach is this is "Mr. Compromise" with the Noble Peace Prize! He "compromises" by lying, creating undue fear amoung Americans, calling on anyone AND everyone to bludgeon his opponents into accepting HIS version of reality, and uses people (first responders) as props for his line of crap.

Ya, Mr Compromise, it's all FAKE like your peace prize about "potential" and not actually earning it by DOING something.

The Sequester was Obama's baby to begin with...let's go back to Nov 2011. Barry said "My message to them is simple: "No." I will veto any effort to get rid of those automatic spending cuts, domestic and defense spending. There will be no easy off ramps on this one."
But now it is Republicans job to fix his plan!!!!!

Yes...Congress agreed to it, but how does it become their burden. And how is America this stupid!

And in November 2011, 64% or more of Americans polled were against the Republican "solution." I wonder why that was?

The sequester was a solution reached after republicans as usual would not come to any sensible or reasonable compromise. The sequester is a republicans mess and they go on vacation and do nothing to address it. Of course there are some in the tea party with no common sense at all that don't give a darn if people are furloughed, meat is not inspected, our defense is limited with so many civilian's and military affected.
