President Obama personally thanked James Carter IV, the grandson of former President Jimmy Carter who played a pivotal role in unearthing Mitt Romney's videotaped "47 percent" comments, both Carters said Thursday on CNN.

Carter IV met the president at a recent event in Atlanta. When former President Carter's brother told Mr. Obama that Carter IV found the video online and flagged it for Mother Jones, the outlet that broke the story, the president "said, 'Hey, great, get over here.' And then he kind of half-embraced me, I want to say, put his arm around me, and we shook hands. He thanked me for my support, several times," Carter IV said.

According to former President Carter, Mr. Obama "ran across the room and thanked [James] profusely."

The video, which was unearthed in September and dealt a significant blow to Romney's candidacy, showed the GOP presidential candidate telling a room full of high-dollar donors at a Florida mansion that 47 percent of American voters are "victims" who are "dependent" on the government, who believe they are "entitled to health care, to food, to housing, you-name-it" and would vote for President Obama "no matter what."

"My job is not to worry about those people," Romney said. "I'll never convince them that they should take personal responsibility and care for their lives."

The video reinforced the damaging suspicions that the very wealthy Romney could not appreciate the concerns of the working and middle class during the crucible of a hard-fought general election in which Romney frequently struggled to shed his CEO image. In retrospect, many, including the Carters, saw the unearthed comments as a fatal blow to Romney's chances.

"I obviously hoped that everything that I found would make a difference," Carter IV said. "It ended up being way behind my wildest dreams."

And former President Carter agreed, calling the video "the pivotal moment" in the election. "It was something [Romney] could not deny and it stuck with him for the rest of the election," he said, "and I think it was a major factor, if not the major factor."

"Carter won Obama the election?" CNN host Piers Morgan asked, laughing.

"I think so," the former president replied with a smile.

Carter IV also clarified the source of the video, saying the person who secretly recorded Romney's comments "wasn't one of the people who had paid $50,000 to be there, but I'm not going to say anything more than that."

to see all the republican comments makes me smile, their whining makes me more bullish on obama (the greatest president in modern times), i bought the stock market at the begining of the obama administration when limbaugh was saying the fall in the market at that time was due to obama coming into office(dow has gone from 8k to over 14k under obama thank you rush), i think the mkt has topped out in the short term, i have sold all the gold i bought under george w bush (the worst president of all time)and with all the gold advertisments i hear on rush and right wing radio, i think i will start shorting the gold market now, remember the party that brought you george w bush and the iraq war are always wrong (FYI my favorite presidents after obama are carter and george h w bush, both one term presidents go figure, but george w was the worst, george wasn't supposed to be president it was supposed to be jeb, but jeb did not win the govenorship of florida first time around (we elect govenors)so they went with george from texas and the rest of the story is devastating, but ultimately resulted in the election and now re-election of barack obama, the greatest president of modern times)

Does anyone here look forward with any hope, or are you just giving up by blaming convenient targets for past sins? Neither party has all the answers, and compromise seems beyond the ken of most politicians, especially on the right, who may see the Bible as the only and total authority in life, which makes it exceedingly difficult to process new information, thereby allowing them to double down when caught in inconsistencies, citing their faith.
If you learned all you need in life in kindergarten, you should not be in government.

What a bunch of horse manure from the facts manipulator.
RobMe makes this stull as he goes along.
It's quite hilarious if already read his baloney before.
IN CASE YOU HAVE FORGOTTEN THE DETAILS!
This tells the story, why Bush was so bad at the end of his term.
Don't just skim over this, read it slowly and let it sink in. If in doubt, check it out.The day the democrats took over was not January 22nd 2009, it was actually January 3rd 2007 the day the Democrats took over the House of Representatives and the Senate, at the very start of the 110th Congress.
The Democrat Party controlled a majority in both chambers for the first time since the end of the 103rd Congress in 1995.
For those who are listening to the liberals propagating the fallacy that everything is "Bush's Fault", think about this:
January 3rd, 2007 was the day the Democrats took over the Senate and the Congress. At the time:
The DOW Jones closed at 12,621.77
The GDP for the previous quarter was 3.5%
The Unemployment rate was 4.6%
George Bush's Economic policies SET A RECORD of 52 STRAIGHT MONTHS of JOB GROWTH
Remember the day...
January 3rd, 2007 was the day that Barney Frank took over the House Financial Services Committee and Chris Dodd took over the Senate Banking Committee.
The economic meltdown that happened 15 months later was in what part of the economy?
BANKING AND FINANCIAL SERVICES!
Unemployment... to this CRISIS by (among MANY other things) dumping 5-6 TRILLION Dollars of toxic loans on the economy from YOUR Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac FIASCOES!
Bush asked Congress 17 TIMES to stop Fannie & Freddie - starting in 2001 because it was financially risky for the US economy.
And who took the THIRD highest pay-off from Fannie Mae AND Freddie Mac? OBAMA
And who fought against reform of Fannie and Freddie?
OBAMA and the Democrat Congress
So when someone tries to blame Bush..

REMEMBER JANUARY 3rd, 2007.... THE DAY THE DEMOCRATS TOOK OVER!"
Budgets do not come from the White House. They come from Congress and the party that controlled Congress since January 2007 is the Democrat Party.

Furthermore, the Democrats controlled the budget process for 2008 & 2009 as well as 2010 &2011.
In that first year, they had to contend with George Bush, which caused them to compromise on spending, when Bush somewhat belatedly got tough on spending increases.
For 2009 though, Nancy Pelosi & Harry Reid bypassed George Bush entirely, passing continuing resolutions to keep government running until Barack Obama could take office. At that time, they passed a massive omnibus spending bill to complete the 2009 budgets.
And where was Barack Obama during this time? He was a member of that very Congress that passed all of these massive spending bills, and he signed the omnibus bill as President to complete 2009.

If the Democrats inherited any deficit, it was the 2007 deficit, the last of the Republican budgets. That deficit was the lowest in five years, and the fourth straight decline in deficit spending. After that, Democrats in Congress took control of spending, and that includes Barack Obama, who voted for the budgets.

If Obama inherited anything, he inherited it from himself. In a nutshell, what Obama is saying is I inherited a deficit that I voted for and then I voted to expand that deficit four-fold since January 20th.

What does Carter know about anything since he was the worst president until Obama came along.
He's just happy not to hold that title anymore.
His grandson must be a real idiot like gramps.
Carter has been trying to live down his inept and failed presidency for 35 years but never will no matter how many shacks he builds for moochers with Habitat For Humanity or phony Nobel Peace Prizes he buys for himself.
His legacy will always be one of failure and just plain stupidity.

Ha! Ha!
Just two months?
You are really hard up to defend OBOZO and grasping at the smallest of straws.
Nothing beats OBOZO's record for unemployment since the Great Depression of 4 years with an average of 8.1%
After he and the Democratic controlled Congress of 2007 which he was a part of, were done wrecking the economy he started his failed presidency on the economy at over 10%.
In reality the Unemployment rate under Obozo is at around 15%.
Pitiful!
