Laura Bush asks to be removed from pro-gay marriage ad

Updated at 4:24 p.m. ET

A pro-gay marriage group says it's "sorry" Laura Bush wishes to be removed from its $1 million pro-gay marriage ad campaign that launched nationally this week on TV, in newspapers and online.

The former first lady's spokeswoman said the Respect for Marriage Coalition, co-chaired by the Human Rights Campaign, did not ask permission to use a clip of her 2010 interview with Larry King saying, "When couples are committed to each other and love each other, then they ought to have the same sort of rights that everyone has." The coalition says it appreciates Mrs. Bush's remarks on the subject but will "now move to new and different voices," and will begin running a new ad this weekend.

Currently, Mrs. Bush's sound bite is featured in the ad along with clips of past administration officials of former President George W. Bush - who opposed gay marriage efforts during his time in the White House - voicing support for same-sex marriage, including former Vice President Dick Cheney and former Secretary of State Colin Powell. Remarks from President Obama are also incorporated.

Mrs. Bush "did not approve of her inclusion in this advertisement nor is she associated with the group that made the ad in any way," the former first lady's spokeswoman Anne MacDonald said in a statement, according to the Dallas Morning News. "When she became aware of the advertisement last night, we requested that the group remove her from it."

The TV ads began airing Wednesday on cable, and are expected to appear during networks' Sunday shows over the coming weeks, according to the group's website. Full-page print versions in the days ahead will run in the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, and the Washington Post, and online ads will appear across top online news sites.

Not sure if confusion would be uncovered with a polygraph, but that would be the first step toward real truth.

I'm not sure the gay movement has been good for gays. I would not want hire one because they seem to be more interested in suing employers and grandstanding for the cause than working.

I've worked with several. Never saw them work any less hard than any of the heteros in the office. We used to have an office after-work poker group and one gay guy fit in well enough to join us without anyone having a problem with it. Course, I've seen some that seem more prima donna than office worker material. Maybe you need to consider interviewing someone for character to weed out the ones who can't handle the job, regardless of sexual orientation. Or maybe the bosses I've known are better at finding good talent.

Stop your Laura Bush bashing sexual deviants and supporters.
The Pro gay marriage group Spokes person said they are e going to take her out of this lying ad and because they had so many complaints trying to use her words out of context in their lying cut and paste fictitious ad.
Why are homosexuals so desperate and hard up doing things like this?
Their entire agenda is built upon one lie after another.
Good for The Former First Lady on getting her way.

You and your fellow homosexuals obviously dosince you wanted her in your ad.
You don't even know what facism is or what in it has to do with her not wanting to be in a gross ad.
My you homosexuals are vicious and highly emotional and irrational. Is that why you throw hissy fits?
I'm sure she would vomit if she saw you kissing another man.
What normal person wouldn't.

Does she really have the right to get her statement withdrawn?

Wouldn't the Larry King Show own the rights?

It's of public domain. They merely honored her wishes.

She doesn't want the constant reminder of Goerge W. Bush's failed policies anymore than the Republican Party wants to be reminded of his economic catastrophy, Iraq War fiasco, and socialist bailouts of Wall Street and "too big to fail."

In the midst of the Republican Civil War, she wishes to remain out of sight and out of mind.

You can't blame her. Hats off to the Respect for Marriage Coalition for honoring her wishes.

Or maybe she simply doesn't approve of marriage between two homosexual humans. Nature doesn't allow (most all) homosexual animals to reproduce. But neither do they get married. Marriage seems to have started as a way to raise a family, etc but it turned into getting survivor benefits, spouse into military clubs, etc, but getting married still won't allow a homosexual couple to reproduce. Being married has nothing to do with being normal.

Marriage didn't start as a "way to make a family".

In response to a question about gay marriage, she said, "There are a lot of people who have trouble coming to terms with that because they see marriage as traditionally between a man and a woman. But I also know that, you know, when couples are committed to each other and love each other, that they ought to have, I think, the same sort of rights that everyone has."

Laura Bush said abortion should "remain legal, because I think it's important for people, for medical reasons and other reasons."

I truly hope L.Bush has had a change of heart but she's probably being snubbed by the people who once supported their agendas and social life. That or the church has rejected her philosophy. In todays world the truth is rarely spoken and rhetoric is abundant.

She doesn't want to be in an AD. She did not say she was retracting her statements.
