Rubio: "There is only one savior, and it's not me"

There's no question Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., is one of the highest profile Republicans working in Washington today.  Following an election in which Hispanics, women and young voters preferred President Obama over Mitt Romney, the Republican Party hasn't been shy about featuring its diverse, fresh faces.

Wednesday, it was announced the 41-year-old Cuban-American Rubio would rebut Mr. Obama's State of the Union speech next week - in English and in Spanish.

This high-profile gig comes as speculation about his 2016 presidential plans reaches a fever pitch - he can't go through an interview without being asked if he's planning to run, it seems.

On top of all that chatter, Rubio hasn't been shy about pushing for immigration reform and arguing that the GOP needs to talk about issues such as immigration in a way that attracts a broader audience.

Time Magazine went as far as proclaiming Rubio as "The Republican Savior" on its cover this week, promoting a story about "How Marco Rubio became the new voice of the GOP."

Well, Time's cover was one step too far for the religious Rubio who tweeted today: "There is only savior, and it's not me. #Jesus"

its amazing that people who have no religious faith and hate religious right for their adherence to the teachings of the bible are so sure what Jesus was. he is God and LInda G I thought you might have a religious belief. What are you going to have to replace the lousy things in life or are you going to live and orgiaastic amoral feel good life to make up for them. Your comment was condescending at the least and is representative of the liberals who have no respect for other's religious beliefs. Christians were tarred for criticizing clinton using the part of the bible which indicates that you should judge not lest ye be judged. I guess this does not apply to secularists. they can act as judgemental or nasty and still be staying within their moral standards. I guess because they have no standard values only those that are convenient at the moment. See the comparison between the beating bush took for water boarding while Obama at will assasinates people with collateral damage and no comments. double standard hypocrisy

Odd that you'd pick me out of ALL the people who posted here. Simply because I responded to a rude, spiteful woman who has been caught in numerous lies over the past few years and displays NONE of the principles Jesus yet claims she's a "Christian" and expects to lord over others in her "afterlife".

JV: telling people that they're going to burn in hell while you live in luxury in heaven, IS lording it over people. Get real. Besides that no one could PAY me enough money to live with you.

"Democrats need a cult figure to blindly follow and don't understand anything except the cult of personality. Thankfully we have some leaders in our political ranks who are not seeking celebrity but to fix the problems in Washington DC."

What are you talking about? Democrats don't need a cult figure...you have one alrady..his name is Barack Hussein Obama...lol....the hero worship on the left is pretty evident and he is absolutely adored by the hollywood elite.

The word oy has been hypothesized as stemming from Biblical Hebrew, with cognates in other Semitic languages.[citation needed] In the JPS Hebrew-English translation (pg 667) 2 Samuel 12:14 states oy vey (translated: my enemies) the phrase is intended to avoid saying "spurned the Lord", instead it says "spurned the enemies of the Lord".

And yet, you were so sure that Romney was going to win. Damn, every day you wrote the same; your prayers were going to be answered with a Romney Presidency in 2012. Ooooops.

Poor JV, she's really banking on getting the goodies when she gets to heaven to make up for her deprived life here on Earth.

Rubio was just too cute with that remark. Time made a political comment about saving the GOP, and Rubio just had to turn it into a religious comment. The problem is that his comment bears no relationship to what Time was trying to say. Is Rubio saying, for instance, that never, never can we use the word "savior" except for Jesus? Why? It is a common word in America. "My savior!" cries the rescued damsel. So what is Rubio trying to do? The only obvious thing is to impress on the far right of the GOP how Christian he is. He is wearing his religion on his sleeve. It is not becoming.

So why did Jesus spend so much time hanging out with these people he "hated"?

Linda -

The religious far right delights in hatred, so they have to ascribe it to Jesus, just as the slave-owners had to find Biblical justification for destroying human beings.

Did you ever see/hear that famous harangue of Billy Graham from the 1950s, where he tries to convince Americans that Jesus was for private property and against communism???

No I missed that one. I call Billy Graham the "pious prostitute" though. Look at the about face he did after being visited by Mitt Romney who gave him a large donation.
