TRENTON, N.J. New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie says it is "reprehensible" for the National Rifle Association to run an ad bringing President Barack Obama's daughters into the gun-control debate.

The nationally prominent governor on Thursday criticized the ad, which accused the president of being a hypocrite for allowing his daughters to be protected by armed Secret Service agents but not embracing armed guards for schools.

Christie said children of public figures should be off-limits to political attacks.

The Republican governor also sided with the Democratic president when Obama came to New Jersey to tour storm damage in October. Christie's praise of the president six days before the election was sharply criticized by some GOP members, who accused Christie of helping to tip a close election to Obama.

Maybe conservatives should take a cue from Obama's favorite last night host, David Letterman.

Liberals, just relax, you folks dish it out by the pounds and don't give a rip.

????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

Why is it any different than taxing cigarette smokers for participating in a legal pasttime?

I don't see how the add attacked his children. It only attacked Obama. People like Coulter love Christie and tout him as the model conservative because he got elected as a Governor of a very liberal state. I don't get it. Being conservative by NJ standards does not make you conservative.

LARRY says: "There's always a person using a tool in a way for which it wasn't designed."

Unfortunately, in this case that "tool" is a firearm that was only designed for killing -- nothing else!

OTOH, The United States Secret Service has the responsibility of protection, which entails ensuring the safety of current and former national leaders and their families, such as the President, past Presidents, Vice Presidents, presidential candidates, visiting heads of state, and foreign embassies.

Ironically, the Secret Service was created by President Abraham Lincoln on April 14, 1865, the day of his assassination, and the legislation creating the agency was on Abraham Lincoln's desk the night he was assassinated. At the time, the only other federal law enforcement agencies were the United States Park Police and the United States Marshals Service.

It was not until after the assassination of President William McKinley in 1901, that Congress informally requested that the Secret Service provide presidential protection. A year later, the Secret Service assumed full-time responsibility for presidential protection.

We might not have had 2 presidents assassinated if Congress had created the Secret Service and requested that it provide presidential protection, before 1865.

I have a trap gun. It was designed for breaking clay targets. And only that. It has a 15% rise and it is only built to hit targets on the rise.

My AR 15 was built for target shooting and nothing else.

The fact that it can do other things is irrelevant. My guns never even hurt someones toe.

NRA is requesting that every school have armed guards. I think we should have a guard or every classroom. We should add a tax to all amunition sales and gun sales to cover the cost. We should also require everyone that owns a gun to buy liability insurance (just like cars). This way we can reduce unemployment and the feds/states can have a whole new revenue stream.

Have another donuts and take it easy Christy.
There's a reason why obama and his elitist minions sent their kids to private school and lived in "white" neighborhood, I'm sure you can figured it out why.
An prime example is chris matthews, see where he lived and where he sent his kids to school.....what's good for the goose is not good for the gander in his book.

How ignorant must one be to believe they don't have added danger? Just like our proud service members. They are targeted, and everyone with a pulse knows they are targeted.

The GOP must be laughing hysterically that minds like yours fall into their fold.

Yes, the NRA should have been more tactful in the point it was making that high level D.C. officials send their children to schools where they are carefully guarded and thus, unlikely to be prone to wacko attack. However, the NRA was correct in the premise. I've never heard of an assault rifle jumping from a gun rack, loading itself and going on an independent shooting spree. There's always a person using a tool in a way for which it wasn't designed.

I support your argument that it is a mentally unstable person who methodically plans and executes an attack on innocent people. I do, however, agree with the idea of limiting the sale of high magazine ammunition clips to civilians, as there is no justifiable reason for anyone to need to own them. The NRA really hit a new low up by referencing the Presidents children in their ad and, as a result, will be met by a tidalwave of opposition both from the public and the federal government. We are all well aware that reported gun sales have gone through the roof since the Newtown tragedy. It is, therefore, more urgent than ever we ensure these weapons do not inadvertently fall into the hands of would be "copy cat" killers.

Here in Kentucky they're talking about hiring retired police officers as security guards for schools. No one on the governor's task force seems to want to arm TEACHERS. Of course then there's the problem of how to pay for it.

Yep. Sort of hiring cops after the resource officer assigned to my daughter's high school was arrested while off duty for driving by a school bus full of middle schoolers and exposing his genitals.

Hmmm..... You just have to asked since they are retired cops, how is their health? Some Police officers do suffer from PTSD, drug and alchol problems among a variety of other illnesses. I certainly shudder at the tought of a police officer having to work until they are 70 before becoming eligible for Social Security and Medicare.
