Obama: Israel has "right to defend itself"

As Israeli airstrikes into Hamas-controlled Gaza expand from government targets into civilian areas, President Obama reiterated his support of Israel's "right to defend itself."

"[T]here is no country on earth that would tolerate missiles raining down on its citizens from outside its borders. So we are fully supportive of Israel's right to defend itself from missiles landing on people's homes," Mr. Obama said at a news conference in Bangkok during an international trip to Thailand, Myanmar and Cambodia.

"Let's understand what the precipitating event here was that's causing the current crisis, and that was an ever-escalating number of missiles that were landing not just in Israeli territory but in areas that are populated," the president added. Hamas launched rockets into Israel leading to the current crisis.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he was ready to "significantly" expand its airstrikes into Gaza and he indicated that Israel could invade Gaza with ground troops. "The soldiers are ready for any activity that could take place," he said at the weekly cabinet meeting.

Israel's "Iron Dome" rocket-defense system has intercepted 250 Gaza-launched rockets aimed for Tel Aviv, the Israeli government said.

Israeli officials have arrived in Egypt for talks about a cease-fire, and Palestinian officials had already been in Cairo for discussions.

In Bangkok, Mr. Obama said long-term peace is unlikely unless Hamas agrees to cease firing rockets into Israel.

"[T]hose who champion the cause of the Palestinians should recognize that if we see a further escalation of the situation in Gaza, then the likelihood of us getting back on any sort of peace track that leads to a two-state solution is, is going to be pushed off way into the future," Mr. Obama said. "So if we're serious about wanting to resolve this situation and create a genuine peace process, it starts with no more missiles being fired in Israel's territory and that then gives us the space to try to deal with these longstanding conflicts that exist."

Doesn't anyone notice the irony? America bombs other countries regularly from outside their borders. Can you imagine what would happen to them if they responded to us bombing them? The hypocrisy in this country is nuts...Democrats should be disgusted.

No, that's NOT why I love Israel! I love Israel because my Lord and Savior Jesus was an Israelite, from the tribe of Judah, and He is the one who died for me and the sins of this world on the cross!

He didn't have to! He was the Son of God! He could have called ten thousand angels to take Him down and save Him but He didn't! He loved me so much that He willingly gave His life for me and for you!

THAT'S why I love Israel!

The latest terrorist activities of Israel are just the result of over 60 years of apartheid and genocide of the Palestinian people. We need to understand this and not try to put the latest events in a vacuum.

The term genocide is normally used to describe Jewish history. If the Palestinians want to not get bombed, stop electing people who build rockets and fire them at Israel.

I agree, let's put this into perspective. Here it goes:

This is not a new war, just a new phase of a very old war.

Although Islam started off as peacefully, it became very violent when Jews, Christians & Mohammad's own tribe refused to believe that Mohammad was a prophet. For what holy prophet comes with a bloody sword?

Muhammad set the example for antisemitism. The oldest extant biography of Muhammad, by Ibn Ishaq is replete with the Prophet's evident hatred of Jews. Most people don't realize that Mecca and Yathrib (Medina) were Jewish and Christian enclaves.

Mohammad had individual Jews assassinated if he felt they had somehow insulted or disobeyed him. When Muhammad gave the command "Kill any Jew that falls into your power," an increasing number of attacks were made upon members of the three large Jewish tribes that dominated the area.

The Sirah, written in the 7th Century, records that "Our attack upon God's enemy cast terror among the Jews, and there was no Jew in Medina who did not fear for his life."

In 627 AD, Mohammad personally oversaw the extermination of the Jewish tribe Banu Qurayza, He built a trench and then cut off the heads of 600-800 Jewish Tribesmen, and then he and his men raped the women and children and sold them off as slaves.

Mohammad then used the land and wealth from the Jewish tribe to fund more to attacks on Jewish and Christian tribes in Mecca and Medina. Just like the technique used by the Nazi's in WW2 to fund their war with the wealth from the Jews that they killed.

Nothing has really changed since then. We have been dealing with Muslim factionalism for 1400 years now.

Islam is not the Religion of Peace. It is a cult of Death and Terror.

Islam's two gods, Allah and Mohammad are the embodiment of the deepest and darkest evil in this world.

Their is a difference between "defending" and killing just in case. Granted Israel has a right to stop people shooting rockets into Israel. Israel on the other hand doesn't have a right to shell homes and buildings in populated area far removed from people shooting rockets because they are members of a group they don't like. They also don't have a right to kill innocent bystanders away from those shooting rockets.

If you're an innocent bystander, don't stand by the rocket launcher.

If you're launching rockets, don't launch them amongst the civilian population unless you want civilians to get killed when you get bombed.

Pretty simple to understand really.

We are not stuck in the middle ages to be compelled to invoke God, religion, etc. The Palestine people have rights too Mr. President. What if apartheid and genocide was being in your backyard? Just because Israel is an ally does not mean that you sell your values to the Devil "pun intended". I expect better from you Mr. Obama.

Speaking of the Bible ... I SUGGEST YOU READ THE FOLLOWING FROM THE KING JAMES BIBLE

..... Acting on God's instructions, the Jews "annihilated everyone who lived in" Makkedah. At Libnah, they again "left no survivors." At Lachish, "they put the sword to all who lived there, just as they had done to Libnah." At Eglon, "they annihilated it just as they had done to Lachish." At Hebron, "they annihilated it and all who lived there." Again at Debir, "they annihilated everyone who lived there; they left no survivors." "Joshua defeated the whole land, including the hill country, the Negev, the lowlands, the slopes, and all their kings. He left no survivors. He annihilated everything that breathed, just as the Lord God of Israel had commanded." (Joshua, Chapter 10.)

Sounds like Genocide to me and the pot calling the kettle black! I'M NOT IGNORANT, NOR AM I A FOOL, I KNOW ISRAEL'S HISTORY! THEY WROTE THE BOOK ON TERRORISM !!!

I have a theological education. Most of the spurious books you refer to were written in the second century ad. Thats over 100 years after Christs birth. The remaining 2 or 3 that could have been written during Christs life were so filled with heresies and outright lies that they could not in all reality be included.
All of these books were not in widespread use but in selective off the wall groups that taught falsely. It is the Devil that has made them survive in only partial form.

II Peter 2:1
But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction.

BLUEJACKET2-2009 ~ Not only am I smarter than you (HELIATOMIC.COM)... I live in California. I don't believe in organized religion nor the Bible. The point I made was that "Jews" are not Gods people. They are human beings, like everyone else, and their "HISTORY" shows that they are WARMONGERS!

I'll expose the missing 17 Books mentioned but not found in ANY VERSION of the Bible.

Religion ... the savior and downfall of humanity ... they knew what they were talking about when they called it ..... THE GREATEST STORY EVER TOLD!

The Bible is Gods word. The Holy Ghost put into the minds of the writers the very words they were to use.
But belief that it is Gods word is a fruit of faith. Those on the road to damnation have no faith and will not believe it.

Matthew 7:13-14 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.

That will be useful information come November 29th. On that day if the Palestinians are granted non member state status in the UN they will have access to the international court at the Hague. War crimes trials should follow very shortly afterwards.

I wonder how many politicians will voice approval of a state ran by convicted war criminals?

I agree with Barack Obama in saying that Israel has the right to defend itself. Then again, Irael also had a right to fight the British for their independence some 20 years before finally succeeding in 1948. Had Winston Churchill been British Prime Minister then, the fighting would have gone on even longer. Today, a lot of right-wing nutjobs condemn the Kurds in Turkey for doing the very same thing and using the same tactics that the Isralis did before 1948. The Kurds have the same rights as the Israelis as far as I'm concerned!
