CIA investigating former chief Petraeus

CBS

FBI officials have already said their investigation into the scandal that brought down David Petraeus hasn't turned up any threat or damage to national security.

But, reports CBS News correspondent Bob Orr, since his affair with Paula Broadwell occured while Petraeus was the director of the Central Intelligence Agency, the CIA's inspector general has begun an internal investigation.

Sources say the CIA is looking into the general conduct of Petraeus over the 14 months he headed the agency before resigning last week after acknowledging the affair.

Petreaus was to testify behind closed doors to two congressional panels Friday about the Sept. 11 attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, Liba that left four Americans dead, including Ambassador Christopher Stevens.

CIA spokesperson Preston Golson tells The Associated Press the probe is "exploratory" and "doesn't presuppose any particular outcome."

But, says Orr, the inspector general wants to make sure Petraeus didn't misuse any agency assets in the process of carrying on his affair with Broadwell.

Petraeus told CNN Thursday he never gave any classified information to Broadwell.

Petraeus also told CNN his resignation had nothing to do with his testimony to Congress about the Benghazi attack, and that he wanted to give the testimony.

A search of Broadwell's computer turned up intimate emails with Petraeus and also revealed Broadwell may have mishandled some classified information that she'd collected for a biography she wrote of him.

The FBI found a substantial number of classified documents on Broadwell's computer, and she has told agents she took classified documents out of secure government buildings.

The bureau also found classified documents in a search of Broadwell's house Monday in Charlotte, N.C. Broadwell had agreed to the search and had told agents in advance that there would be more of them there.

Lt. Colonel Broadwell has served with the U.S. intelligence community, U.S. Special Operations Command, and FBI Joint Terrorism Task Forces. She is a West Point graduate and currently a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of War Studies, King's College London. She has a high level security clearance and is currently serving as a Lt. Colonel in the US Army Reserve. It is not hard to believe that she would have access to classified materials.

What is hard to believe is that if she was having sex wth General Petraeus has anything to do with why he resigned.

Benhazi is where the war to overthrow Ghaddafi was started by the so called "Libyan Freedom Fighters" who Obama told us we needed to support with Air Raids like the one in Sirte where we killed 20,000 Libyan civilians. Benghazi is also known for terror attacks on the Red Cross Headquarters and an RPG attack on a British diplomatic convoy in June of this year. Every Western power had left Benghazi before 9/11/12 due to security reasons except for the US embassy.

On 9/11/2012 General Carter Ham US Commander of AFRICOM and Rear Admiral Charles Gauoette of the John C Stennis Carrier Strike Group were both in a position to intervene during the Benghazi terrorist attacks against Ambassador Stevens. Both like General Petraeus have been removed from duty.

Is it possible that the real evens in Benghazi where concealed from the American people in the months before the Presidential election? Could it be that Al Queada killed our ambassador and we were not told? Coverup in Benghazi? You decide...

Petraeus says he was vulnerable because he transitioned from active military to retirement, but that's usually when people transition from work to non-work. Besides, the adjustment process is one of the things the HR people always talk about during the closing months of an employee's career. If Petraeus believed what he was doing was wrong and even dangerous, then they're probably pissed that he began it two or three months into the job.

Don't underestimate the power of a woman. Ask king David, Samson, Bill Clinton, and a whole lot of men. When you are in such a position, sometime it could be very lonely up there, especially given the age of his wife where most women at that age is not interested in Sex. With the General being very active, the draw of sex is a very strong magnet.
Petraeus have given his country so much; i think it is wrong to destroy him with this scandal. Enough damage has been done.
What is irresponsible is that the GOP are trying to tie this to Benghazi. The interesting thing is that some of the GOP on intelligent committee are having an affair, but they are so quick to destroy someone else for the same thing they are doing.
Your Gingrich and the GOP trying to impeach Clinton, why Gingrich was banging another lady that was not his wife-hypocrites is what the GOP are.
