Ohio exit poll: More Democrats vote, but independents back Romney

CBS

As expected, the presidential race is tight in Ohio, where the polls just closed: President Obama is winning women 55 percent to 44 percent in the early CBS News exit poll, while Mitt Romney is leading 52 percent to 46 percent among men. Women made up 51 percent of the electorate, compared to 49 percent among women.

Thirty-nine percent of voters so far identified themselves as Democrats, compared to 30 percent calling themselves Republican. Thirty-one percent identified as independent or something else, and Romney has a big edge among this group - 56 percent to 40 percent for Mr. Obama.

Voters in Ohio, where one in eight jobs are tied to the auto industry, were almost evenly split on which candidate is best able to guide the economy - their top issue. Fifty nine percent approve of the federal government's aid to U.S. automakers, while 36 percent disapprove. The "disapprove" figure includes 90 percent of Romney voters.

Mr. Obama is winning big in cities with populations over 50,000 people, where one in four voters are located: He leads Romney 68 percent to 30 percent. The suburbs are tight, with a small edge to Romney. More than half of voters can be found in the suburbs. Romney is dominating small cities and rural areas, 60 percent to 38 percent.

This is an early exit poll and do not reflect the final exit poll numbers.

You woule think Romney could give a concession speech- oh well what else can you expect when he was obvious loser so early in the evening. Obama's coalition held throughout taking most of the battleground states- Ohio-Virginia, Colorado- and a last moment Pennsylvani and most likely Florida as most of uncounted in democratic strongholds- take solace you did eke out No. Carolina- do think Florida will also go dem- unless vitesampered with-not an unknown thing to happen there-thought you had a bit more class my man-but then again only preparing victory speech would have tendency to bring out the bad in anyone.!!!

But he won't my friend. 4 more years with nothing changing, how screwed are we? ( and I had little hope a Romney win would matter much.

Well, one independent I know does back Romney.

Another only spouts the prerecorded memes that a local radio DJ puts out.

A third votes GOP regardless what they say.

A couple of others are reluctantly voting for Obama. Two absolutely are voting Obama.

    One isn't bothering to vote.

Take that what you will, but from my neck of the woods, that's just a sample. Most people just don't want to get involved, apart from filling circles on a piece of paper. Ironic; both sides prefer a nanny state, if you think about it like that...

    Forget Ohio, WATCH VIRGINIA!

Virginia is the key. Romney has to win Florida, North Carolina, VIRGINIA, Ohio and either New Hampshire or Colorado to win.

If Romney wins Florida, North Carolina, Virginia and Ohio, Obama can still win if he takes both New Hampshire and Colorado (in addition to Michigan, Wisconsin, Iowa, Nevada and Pennsylvania).

Obama has a lot of different ways to get to 270. Romney only has two...and they both include Virgina and Ohio.
