First Election Day voters, in two tiny N.H. locations, give Obama lead

DIXVILLE NOTCH, N.H. Residents of two tiny villages in northern New Hampshire headed to the polls at midnight, casting the first Election Day votes in the nation.

After 43 seconds of voting, President Obama and Republican Mitt Romney each had 5 votes in Dixville Notch.

In Hart's Location, Mr. Obama won with 23 votes, Romney received 9 and Libertarian Gary Johnson received 1 vote. Thirty-three votes were cast in 5 minutes, 42 seconds.

The towns have been enjoying their first-vote status since 1948, and it's a matter of pride to get everyone to the polls.

Hart's Location Selectman Mark Dindorf says you could call it a friendly competition to see who gets votes tallied first, although he says Hart's Location is a town and Dixville Notch is a precinct.

Social justice with equality of opportunity with a fair chance for all is not Socialism. Making sure that the rich pay their fair share of tax like more than their maids and gardeners who don't tax attorneys and off shore bank accounts is NOT socialism. What is more vicious is this stupid idea that you need a country where the government is not able to stand up for the rights of all its citizens to be treated decently and fairly. That we need to surrender all power to a commercial and financial aristocracy who are able to do whatever they want whenever they want to whomever they want. That's what is this free market model these REPUBLICANS are advocating is all about. It is a society or rampant capitalism where a rich and powerful elite get to pass ever greater and greater wealth gained by exploiting the rest of society and especially the weakest over to their off spring who never have to do a decent days actual work in their pampered privileged meaningless lives. That is the land of the free what Mitt the Moron Romney and Ryan Goebbels or is that Gerbil want to create. Were rich equals complete freedom to exercise their power and the government is so neutered the rest are free to whistle Dixie.

I'll predict that the main media will continue to ignore the story that Republican precinct observers were kicked out of some black precincts in Philadelphia, but a Federal judge has ordered them back. Imagine if some Democratic precinct observers were prevented from observing the vote somewhere, and a Federal judge ordered them reinstated. Do you think maybe then that the media might be covering the outrage?

You all think OB did a good job????? Boy either you live under a Rock someplace or your just not paying attention. If OB gets in we are in
BIG trouble. I for one do not want the government running my life.
You got to be smarter then that. He got to be President because
people were fooled by his string of lies. All he did was spend money (LOTS)
and play golf, basketball, travel,go on TV,& spend more money.
Gee where were all you living while this was going on?? Plus he has not Plan but the same thing. Wake Up People.

I agree....the GOP needs to change their name to DOPES, and run somebody other than a FLIP-FLOPPING snake oil salesman, with NO DETAILS or SPECIFICS on any of his rotten proposals that only support the other plutocrats!

It's easy to see you're just another fox/rush/breitbart junkie, spewing the same hate and discontent as the others from a party stuck in the past, and full of "birthers, baggers and buffoons"!

Their own words sum the two men up:

"I stand by what I said, whatever that was." - Willard Romney

"I say what I mean and mean what I say." - President Obama

(these are ACTUAL quotes)

I voted for President Obama (again) this morning.

Agree, cydygitt and signseeker......it's pathetic what the GOP has morphed into. They will NEVER win another election unless they will run a candidate who is at least centrist and not so far to the right they are falling off a cliff. I've never seen so many irrational, hateful, bigoted whackos in my lifetime who have invaded the Republican party.
