President Obama on Saturday acknowledged the nation has "a long way to go" in the aftermath following Superstorm Sandy, but pledged the administration will be putting in a "120 percent effort" to ensure the impacted regions get the assistance they need.

Mr. Obama, speaking after a briefing about ongoing recovery efforts at the FEMA headquarters in Washington, D.C., emphasized his commitment to restoring power, pumping flooded areas, removing debris, and attending to the needs of those impacted by the storm, which ravaged New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut this week. He noted that the military had been called in to help hasten that process.

"We still have a long way to go to make sure that the people of New Jersey, Connecticut, New York, and some of the surrounding areas get their basic needs taken care of and that we start moving back to normalcy," Mr. Obama said. "There's nothing more important than us getting this right. And we're going to spend as much time, effort and energy as necessary to make sure that all the people in New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut know that the entire country is behind them in this difficult recovery effort."

He added: "We are going to put not just 100 percent, but 120 percent behind making sure that they get the resources they need to rebuild and recover."

The president lauded the hard work of first responders in the immediate aftermath of the storm, and noted that relief efforts would start to focus on efforts to give victims a resumed sense of normalcy.

"As we start seeing the weather get a little bit colder people cannot be without power for long periods of time, without heat for long periods of time," he said. "So what we are doing is starting to shift to identify where we can have temporary housing outside of shelters so people can get some sense of normalcy, they have a hot meal, they can have a capacity to take care of their families as their homes are being dealt with."

The president spent more than an hour in a briefing on the recovery efforts, during which he communicated via video conference with the governors and some mayors of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut, according to a White House pool report. He also

received an update from the National Weather Service about a possible storm that could be moving into the area.

"What I told the governors and the mayors is what I've been saying to my team since the start of this event, and that is we don't have any patience for bureaucracy, we don't have any patience for red tape, and we want to make sure that we are figuring out a way to get to yes, as opposed to no, when it comes to these problems," the president told reporters after the briefing.

According to the White House, several top administration officials were slated to visit communities throughout the affected region following the briefing.

From what I have seen on the news the people are screaming for FEMA. Many apparently have not seen hide nor hair. Obama can see to it after the election when he has time. Then everything will be fine. Right now there are some states he is not real sure of.

With Obama it's always the same excuse! "We have a long way to go", "We have more to do". Never is it "We solved that problem", or "Disaster victims have been taken care of. No water for Staten Island until Monday when anyone other than a faculty lounge dilettante can go to any grocery store in the country, buy water and drive to NY on a Sunday! Four more years!!!! Why is the Secretary of Defense with him? Are they expecting another Benghazi attack?

So now that Obama is done with the photo ops for his campaign and people are running out of food, water, fuel, heat, etc., in New Jersey what is he doing about it?

Oh right, they're on their own until after the election. I keep forgetting that his re-election is even more important than repelling a terrorist attack on his propaganda machine in New York; ABC, CBS and NBC.

We cannot let Obama's theatrical performance during Hurricane Sandy overshadow what took place in Libya. There is mounting evidence against the president and his administration that they were well aware of the fact that our U.S. Embassy was being attacked seven hours before the four Americans were killed and also that Obama had made a predetermined decision to not have additonal security forces at the embassy on September 11th.
Saving American lives was not a part of Obama's political agenda and that is why Obama had to search for yet another lie to tell the American people in order to cover up his incompetence as president and what better ploy than an Anti-Muslim video. Obama knew from the beginning that it was Al Qaeda that had attacked the American Embassy in Libya (the same TERROIST group that had attacked America on 9/11), but how would this look for him before elections if he had been able to kill the leader of Al Qaeda but was incapable of controling Osama's Islamist Militant terroist organization.
The ex-Navy seals at the CIA annex near the consulate had asked officials at the White House numerous times for permission to help those under attack at our consulate and they were told each time to stand down. The ex-Navy seals had decided to disobey the callous orders coming from the White House and decided to instead follow their Navy Seal Creed "To Never Leave a Man Behind"
After aiding in the escape of the American Citizens from the consulate they again asked for help and were once again denied and shortly after their last plea they were killed by mortar fire.
The irony of this whole situation is that Obama has constantly reminded Americans of the great INTEL work that went into finding and killing the TERRORIST Osama Bin Laden, yet he is now telling the American people that he was completely unaware of the circumstances in Libya.
CBS, NBC, MSNBC, ABC, CNN are all in bed with this administration and they are all well aware of the evidence and circumstances of the attack on our U.S. embassy in Libya, yet they have decided to not inform the American people of the truth. Unfortunately, true honest journalism is practically dead in this country and the news media knows its power of influence. Why do you think communist countries have state ran media.
There were many more events that took place on that fateful night in Libya and it will only be a matter of time before the truth will be known and justice will be served for those American whose lives were denied by our government.

Considering your type still gives GWB a pass for failing to protect our homeland on 9/11, I'd think you'd complain less.

They knew that Al Qaeda was - specifically - planning on attacking our homeland with airplanes, and they knew that the WTC was already a major terrorist target.

RFL- Bush has been in office less than 9 months on 9/11. Intelligence did not have specific information that terrorists were going to use aircraft. So other than shutting down the country, there was no way to protect the nation. Intelligence failed to connect the dots.

WRONG!

"On July 10, 2001, two months before the attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, then-CIA Director George J. Tenet met with his counterterrorism chief, J. Cofer Black, at CIA headquarters to review the latest on Osama bin Laden and his al-Qaeda terrorist organization.

Black laid out the case, consisting of communications intercepts and other top-secret intelligence, showing the increasing likelihood that al-Qaeda would soon attack the United States. It was a mass of fragments and dots that nonetheless made a compelling case, so compelling to Tenet that he decided he and Black should go to the White House immediately.

"Tenet called Condoleezza Rice, then national security adviser, from the car and said he needed to see her right away... He and Black hoped to convey the depth of their anxiety and get Rice to kick-start the government into immediate action..."

Woodward writes that Tenet hoped to "shake Rice" and that Black "emphasized that this amounted to a strategic warning, meaning the problem was so serious that it required an overall plan and strategy... They needed to take action that moment covert, military, whatever to thwart bin Laden..."

Woodward continues, "Tenet and Black felt they were not getting through to Rice. She was polite, but they felt the brush-off. President Bush had said he didn't want to swat at flies..."

At the very least, there should have been air marshals on each flight. But no, GWB took a month-long vacation, instead, and didn't bother with the airlines - at all.

Richard Clarke, terrorist adviser for Bush and Clinton said in his book Against All Enemies that he tried right up to 9/11 to get a meeting with Bush about terrorism and was blocked by Rice up until the day before 9/11. Bush did not even want to hear the name Al Qaeda mentioned in his presence. It was a nuisance, like "swatting flies".

Memories are conveniently short. When Katrina hit, the press and Dems trashed Bush for taking too long with FEMA and other aid and for dragging his feet. Bush was blamed for the slowness in response. No difference here, EXCEPT, we have a Dem president and of course, he can do no wrong. Sandy is Obama's Katrina and if FEMA and other aid is slow, it's all Obama's fault, just like it presumably was all Bush's fault for the slow response by FEMA and other aid into the Gulf area after Katrina, but especially in New Orleans. Bush was accused of being racist for his slowness. So, what does that make Obama? I guess a racist as well.

Did you see that GWB's head of FEMA "Brownie" Brown said that Obama reacted "too quickly" to the storm??

No difference? Do you see people holed up in Madison Square Garden waiting days upon days for someone to come to their aid? NO! Almost all electricity has been restored to Manhattan. FEMA and the Red Cross are all over Staten Island and NJ, etc. Will things take some time? Yes, but nowhere near as slow in responding as in Katrina--NOT EVEN CLOSE!

Wrong again. Obama is using FEMA to help - not like GW Bush who gave it as a political prize to a friend whose incompetence multipled the misery suffered from Katrina. Obama is saving our Country.
