GOP Rep. calls evolution lie from "pit of hell"

ATHENS, Ga. Georgia Rep. Paul Broun said in videotaped remarks that evolution, embryology and the Big Bang theory are "lies straight from the pit of hell."

The Republican lawmaker made those comments during a speech Sept. 27 at a sportsman's banquet at Liberty Baptist Church in Hartwell.

Broun, a medical doctor, is running for re-election in November unopposed by Democrats.

During the remarks, Broun said that he believes the Earth is about 9,000 years old and that it was made in six days. Those beliefs are held by fundamentalist Christians who believe the creation accounts in the Bible are literally true.

Broun spokeswoman Meredith Griffanti told the Athens Banner-Herald that Broun was recorded speaking to a church group about his religious beliefs.

He sits on the House Committee on Science, Space and Technology.

Worthy of an "Oh My God". One has to wonder whether certain members of our species made it to the **** Sapiens level. Something must have gone wrong during their embryologic development.

For all of you who are dreaming about how great it would be to live in a theocracy, maybe you should re-think that.

"He sits on the House Committee on Science, Space and Technology." Now that, at least to me, is the scary part. How many electoral votes come from Georgia?

Neanderthals tend to raise neanderthals and they seem most reflected in the republican party. Therefore, voting republican is voting not to progress but to go backwards.

If you go to wikipedia and look up "scientific theory" you MIGHT learn something. BUT it won't fit with your world view so why should you bother?

I was just saying that jimborn121 should have first learned the basics like spelling before he tackled biology, chemistry, etc, and certainly before he criticized others! Especially those who graduated college, medical school, their internship and residentcy, and then rose to the rank of Chief of Staff!

If someone were to believe the Bible is literally the truth, then tell me, why are the two stories of creation (Genesis, chanpters 1 and 2) almost completely opposite in order of occurance? Science has proven through mathematics and chemistry that knowledge is consistant across the board from physics to geology and biology. There is no contradiction. If there was, different mathematical relationships would have to exist for the different sciences and they don't. I look to the Bible for how to live my life in relationships and for a reference of what happens when they go right or wrong. I will consider the Bible as a scientific reference when they find the atomic table in the Torah.

AP writes this to entice readers into thinking that only GOP members would say/think as such. Odds favor there are some conservative Democrats out there that think the same. Regardless, the position is shallow.

We have repeated instances of Republican saying such things. Please list any and all instances of Democrats doing so.

AP writes this because it happened. They said nothing about who else would say or think it. If you got the impression that only GOP members would, you didn't get it from the article ... rather, you got it from well known facts about the GOP.
