Letterman begs Romney to come on "Late Show"

(CBS News) Mitt Romney's presidential campaign has "done a first-rate job of snubbing us," CBS "Late Show" host David Letterman said Friday, demanding of his audience that if the GOP nominee hasn't appeared on his show by election day on Nov. 6, "don't vote for him."

Reprising past pleas to the former Massachusetts governor, Letterman announced that "Mitch" Romney, as the bit goes, has his pick of "any night, any time, short notice, whatever he wants." President Obama went on the show last week.

Letterman said he's "getting a whiff" that Romney's "scared -- let me rephrase that... yellow," and joked that the nominee won't come to his studio and talk to him but is "going to put China in their place." He insisted his jokes about Romney aren't personal.

"We just make fun of everybody -- that's the whole deal," Letterman said. "And it just happens that 'Mitch' is funnier than Obama. So it doesn't mean anything." Pointing out that he himself is an independent, he added, "I have no dog in this fight, ladies and gentlemen."

Romney did appear on the show in December, months before securing the nomination, to do Letterman's "Top Ten." On Friday's edition, Letterman read his "Top Ten Reasons Mitt Romney Should Appear on the 'Late Show'":

10. It's required by the Constitution

9. Compared to me, anybody looks popular

8. Plenty of parking for the Cadillacs

7. If he makes a gaffe, no one will see it

6. Green room stocked with plain yogurt and tap water

5. None of our cameras are hidden

4. He can fire as many Late Show staffers as he wants

3. It's a chance to win back the lazy freeloader vote

2. Rick Santorum will do this show, but Mitt won't

1. John McCain once blew us off - how'd that turn out?

What more proof of an intelligent front runner than having no time for the "David Letterman needy - I need more viewers" challenge. I encourage late night viewers to do as I have and say good bye and good night to the Letterman show. David Letterman should leave his obvious personal opinions re: politics out of his so called entertainment. He was and is a comedian and needs to return to what he does best. For now, his show is a no show for me. Come join me. There are much more enjoyable shows we can laugh at. Which is the plan. Time to go Dave...

Romney has more important issues, and one is not to be associated with Letterman who needs to retire....I've never tuned into Letterman, because there is nothing to tune in to..of course if he wants a real comedian he should ask Obama for a repeat...I say vote Letterman off the network...If he wants another comedian I'm sure Biden will show up....

Just one more nail in the coffin of that walking sarcophagus. Letterman stopped being cool when I was in High School, back in the 90's. Done with him.

What the hell has happened to David Letterman? Poor guy is longer funny and his face is twisted and tight and full of hate! My God...what a jerk to try to come off as an independent. He's on the evil Obama train and is trying to load us all on it, too. Not going to work here, brotha.

The interns love Letterman, but only if he pays them to "love" him, the dirty old geezer.

Letterman is so pro-welfare (Obama) that I pray every day that he dies.

I use to watch his show every single day, and now I just want him to die.

I can't believe that he went from my favorite to the most disgusting person on TV.

letterman is asking people to not vote for Mr. Romney, if he doesn't come on his show before the election.. I'm asking Mr. Romney to ignore Mr. Davey, and I'n asking CBS to drop David's ass or I won't watch any more Mr. David. He's a total puke, and evidently thinks rather HIGHLY of his intellect, I don't. And if CBS contiues to allow Mr. Davey to go on like this, I will personally do everything in my power to see that my friends stop visiting CBS also. He (Mr. Davey) has been going totally off the deep end for too long. How can anyone approve?? What a useless PRICK.. There...I'm resorting to name calling...He's an ass-hole!! RJM

Letterman and Regis are the two most untalented people in the History of television.

How these two morons are able to stay on TV should be a crime.

I really use to enjoy David Letterman, but I absolutely hate his guts now.
He is so blatantly PRO-OBAMA that it makes me sick to watch his show.
Letterman is viscous towards Romney and absolutely kisses up to Obama.

It's sickening that these rich celebrities don't have a clue what is going on in America. Everywhere you look, the minoriites are impregnating everything that moves and then those girls go right on 100% welfare.

There's no shame anymore. It's a chosen lifestyle choice for these lazy welfare scum.

In my town, one teen black has 3 girls pregnant and they all hang out together. He takes his share of the $1800 a month they get in food stamps and all they do is party and have sex.

You can't go anywhere in the State without seeing fat, ugly, white girls with black babies... and no father in the picture.

3 guys in Tennessee have 81 kids with 46 baby mammas and none of them pay more than a few dollars a month in child support.

Obama wants to make everyone pay to support these criminal breeding baby factories.

This guy letterman is showing his brain power. It is about the size of a thimble. I have absolutely no respect for this character when I found out about his hideaway bedroom for his girls that work for him. He is stupid and I would think a lot less of Rommney if he gives him the time of day.
