Ohio moves towards Obama in latest electoral map estimate

CBS
(CBS News) We've seen a steady drumbeat now of polls favorable to President Obama in most of the key battleground states. All of them are snapshots in time -- but the electoral map, as of today, is looking a bit more in favor of the president.

Ohio remains a battleground, but now leans blue - toward Mr. Obama. The president has seen a consistent edge not just overall in the state, but internally with the key groups that would swing it. He is up by 10 in our most recent Quinnipiac/CBS News/NYT Times poll, and has large leads in other polls as well. Pennsylvania, meanwhile, now looks likely for Mr. Obama -- he has held a large lead there for a while.

That gives us nine total battlegrounds, most of which are still in tossup status, some of which lean to one candidate or the other though both campaigns are fighting hard in them:

  • Ohio (leans Obama)
  • Colorado (tossup)
  • Nevada (tossup)
  • New Hampshire (tossup)
  • Virginia (tossup)
  • Florida (tossup)
  • Iowa (tossup)
  • Wisconsin (tossup)
  • North Carolina (leans Romney)

A couple of side items worth noting about Ohio: It is clear that Romney has focused on the state and it is part of his preferred path to victory. But he can win the presidency without Ohio, if it were to come to that (and let's remember it is still a battleground). His electoral math at the moment is actually broader than just Ohio. Romney's path really goes through two out of the three, Ohio, Florida, and Virginia. If he wins Florida and Virginia instead, and does well in other battlegrounds, he can certainly still get to 270. And that is assuming the rest of the states stay as they are -- we still have weeks to go and others could always come into play if events change.

Moreover, we should remember that while it is true that no Republican has won the White House without Ohio, that's not determinative and is also partly an artifact of history -- not because Ohio is the only barometer of the fortunes of the GOP.

1right1wrong says:
It did start with Clinton and it ended with the Dem congress......This tells the whole story, why Bush was so bad at the end of his term.
Don't just skim over this, it's not long, but read it slowly and let it sink in. If in doubt, check it out!
The day the democrats took over was not January 22nd 2009, it was actually January 3rd 2007, the day democrats took over the House of Representatives and the Senate, at the very start of the 110th Congress.
The Democrat Party controlled a majority in both chambers for the first time since the end of the 103rd Congress in 1995.
For those who are listening to the liberals propagating the fallacy that everything is "Bush's Fault", think about this:
January 3rd, 2007 was the day the Democrats took over the Senate and the Congress.
At the time:
The DOW Jones closed at $12,621.77
The GDP for the previous quarter was 3.5%
The Unemployment rate was 4.6%
George Bush's Economic policies SET A RECORD of 52 STRAIGHT MONTHS of JOB GROWTH!
Remember the day...
January 3rd, 2007 was the day that Barney Frank took over the House Financial Services Committee and Chris Dodd took over the Senate Banking Committee.
The economic meltdown that happened 15 months later was in what part of the economy?
BANKING AND FINANCIAL SERVICES!
Unemployment... to this CRISIS by (among MANY other things) dumping 5-6 TRILLION Dollars of toxic loans on the economy from YOUR Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac FIASCOES!
Bush asked Congress 17 TIMES to stop Fannie & Freddie - starting in 2001 because it was financially risky for the US economy.
And who took the THIRD highest pay-off from Fannie Mae AND Freddie Mac? BARACK HUSSEIN OBAMA!
And who fought against reform of Fannie and Freddie?
OBAMA and the Democrat Congress
So when someone tries to blame Bush
REMEMBER JANUARY 3rd, 2007.... THE DAY THE DEMOCRATS TOOK OVER!"
Budgets do not come from the White House. They come from Congress and the party that controlled Congress since January 2007 is the Democrat Party.
Furthermore, the Democrats controlled the budget process for 2008 & 2009 as well as 2010 & 2011.
In that first year, they had to contend with George Bush, which caused them to compromise on spending, when Bush somewhat belatedly got tough on spending increases.
For 2009 though, Nancy Pelosi & Harry Reid bypassed George Bush entirely, passing continuing resolutions to keep government running until Barack Obama could take office. At that time, they passed a massive omnibus spending bill to complete the 2009 budgets.
And where was Barack Obama during this time? He was a member of that very Congress that passed all of these massive spending bills, and he signed the omnibus bill as President to complete 2009.
If the Democrats inherited any deficit, it was the 2007 deficit, the last of the Republican budgets.
That deficit was the lowest in five years, and the fourth straight decline in deficit spending.
After that, Democrats in Congress took control of spending, and that includes Barack Obama, who voted for the budgets.
If Obama inherited anything, he inherited it from himself.
In a nutshell, what Obama is saying is "I inherited a deficit that I voted for and then I voted to expand that deficit four-fold since January 20th."
"Apparently, I'm supposed to be more angry about what Mitt Romney does with his money than what Barack Obama does with mine."

Republicans have shown they place allegiance to Grover Norquist and party over the love of country. Thereby proving they are undeserving of holding public office and shaping public policy.

Think about it. In 2010 republicans campaigned for congress on creating jobs. But what did they do after gaining control of the house? They began the war on women, they cause America's credit rating to be downgraded, they refused to extend unemployment benefits, they refused to allow a vote on President Obama's job act.

They have created unnecessary voter I.D. laws at the state level to suppress the vote of likely Democratic voters. I could go on and on with numeous examples of how republicans have used they public office to benefit corporations, big oil, big pharma and the super rick over struggling Americans.

Bottom line republicans have shown they are incapable and unworthy of holding public office. Now it's up to voters to vote against them like they have voted against us.

Willard can't deliver Massachusetts even though he was governor (his approval rating nose dived after he took office, so no surprise), and Ryan can't deliver Wisconsin (big disappointment there!). Aren't politicians supposed to at least carry their home state? Used to be, you picked a VP at least partly because you needed their state in your column. If you and the VP can't even deliver your own states, you're both hurting the math that gets you the 270 votes needed to win. Willard could really use those 21 pts right now.

Even the conservative polls say most of the big toss-up states are breaking for the president. With that, Obama has an easy ride to 270 votes. The Vegas and Irish bookies have been laying odds that the president wins re-election. So Willard better have a bombshell to deliver in the debates or it's too little too late.

When Mitt Romney became Massachusetts governor, he had a 66% approval rating and 33% disapproval for +33%.

At the end of his one and only term, he had a 65% DISAPPROVAL rating and 34% approval for a -31% rating.

The 64% turnaround is the most astonishing Buyers' Remorse for a governor I've ever seen.

Mitt Romney has shown what kind of Chief Executive he is in a political environment. Stunningly awful.

That's what we'd be electing with a Romney/ Ryan presidency.

all I know is :
the republicans had mass control of congress from 1997-2007 and did not even attempt to fix SS, Medicare, tax systems. How do you have control for 10 years and get nothing done. At least Hillary & Obama tried, one didn't succeed the other did.. What kind of leaders are the republicans? The republicans passed the NCLB mandate without even asking the states. And look at the number of states trying to get waivers. An expensive failed republican mandate.

You really think the GOP house will allow Romney to do anything regarding health care other than repeals it? The GOP house has already publically stated they will take their sweet old time to come up with a replacement IF THEY COME UP WITH ANYTHING. Boehner already stated this as much.

What I want to know is what/how Romney is going to guarantee that the banks/hedge funds never cause another meltdown like in 2007/2008? If that happens again it'll destroy the economy this time vs just putting us into a major recession. What's he going to do? If all out savings are in the bank or invested in 401K/IRAs and our SS is sitting in some mutual fund, we cannot afford another financial crisis. The 1% can handle it, we cannot. If I want to vote for R&R, I want to know what THEY WILL DO. The democrats want to try to restrict the thieves/gamblers from doing it (the Dodd-Frank bill). At least the democrats are trying, what are the republicans doing?

With a voucher program, the government will issue a voucher to people to help (loose term here) people pay for premiums. It does nothing to say that people can find affordable health insurance. It says nothing about insurances accepting people with pre-existing conditions. What do you think you will have by the time you do get to 65? More than likely you will have some sort of pre-existing conditions. And last but not least, the voucher does nothing to reduce the actual cost of health care services.

Remember it was House Republican Majority Eric Cantor that purposely changed the Stock Act (the one about inside trader knowledge) so politicians can still make trades on insider knowledge (just via family members). It was in the original bill, he changed it. Congress had to vote twice to get it done right!!! Who's looking out for whom???

Note Ryan plagiarized the health care cuts from Obama's ACA committee. Romney plagiarized the 12million job creation number from Moody's analysts. Neither giving credit to their sources. Also, Romney will take credit of the 12million jobs that Moody's analysts have already stated that will occur regardless which person is in the WH.

And all of this and I have not even mentioned things like women's rights, etc.

You did notlook at the voting record in congress. Nor have you looked at the attachments to bills used by those opposed to bill to force it fail and the POOR TAXPAYER NEVER sees that on items printed by our government.

The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Friday shows President Obama attracting support from 47% of voters nationwide, while Mitt Romney earns the vote from 46%. Three percent (3%) prefer some other candidate, and four percent (4%) are undecided. See daily tracking history.

Romney is supported by 86% of Republicans, while Obama gets the vote from 85% of Democrats. The GOP hopeful has a four-point edge among voters not affiliated with either major party.

When "leaners" are included, the race is tied at 48% apiece. Leaners are those who are initially uncommitted to the two leading candidates but lean towards one of them when asked a follow-up question. Beginning this Monday, October 1, Rasmussen Reports will be basing its daily updates solely upon the results including leaners.

The president holds a solid lead in Maine, while Romney has a big advantage in Arizona.

Scott Rasmussen's weekly newspaper column shows that the debates are not likely to change the presidential race much, although even a small change could be decisive.

Rasmussen gives the edge to Obama in all the big toss-up states. If they're right, Obama has an easy path to the electoral voted needed to win since he doesn't need all of them. Willard does need to win ALL the toss-up states to win, and the likelihood of that isn't promising. Ohio and Florida are going Obama's way and Willard's "47% are worthless parasites" video won't turn that around.

Gee what would Ohio's unemployment look like without the auto bailout that Romney was against. I'll bet you think it was all kasich that got the unemployment down to where it is. As for fcts why is romney hiding all the facts of his past, if he's for the U.S. why is the majority of his money invested offshore? Why did he offshore jobs?
