Calif. Democratic leader John Burton: GOP lies similar to those of Nazi propagandist Joseph Goebbels

(CBS/AP) CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The chairman of the California Democratic Party has compared Republican tactics during the presidential campaign to the "big lie" strategy most famously employed by Nazi propagandists.

California Democratic chief John Burton made the remarks Monday in an interview with San Francisco station KCBS while in Charlotte for the Democratic National Convention.

Complete coverage: Democratic National Convention

Burton said GOP vice presidential nominee Paul Ryan lied in his speech to the Republican National Convention last week, adding that Republicans "lie and don't care if people think they lie" and that, "Joseph Goebbels, the big lie, you keep repeating it ... that was Goebbels. The big lie."

Goebbels was the chief of Nazi propaganda. Nazi leader Adolf Hitler believed the "big lie" had a greater chance of being believed.

Full coverage: Election 2012

Republicans immediately criticized Burton and called for an apology.

Burton later issued a statement saying that he "humbly apologized" to anyone offended by his comparison.

His Republican counterpart, California Republican Party Chair Tom Del Beccaro, told KCBS he was confident that the controversial remarks would hurt Democrats on Election Day.

"It means the Democratic National Convention is off to a poor start," Del Beccaro said, "because it's divisive rhetoric, and voters these days are looking for solutions, not divisiveness."

California is the only state to go further to the left in the 2012 election. And this year, the Republicons that caused all the problems will not have ANY further say in California.

John Burton is the same old idiot that has run the Dems in Calif for years. He compares the Republicans to the Nazi's when the Dems are the ones that want to promote abortions from inception through birth of a child. Isn't this what Hitler promoted in his survival of the fittist campaign? Who is throwing away life, the Dems or the Republicans? You idiots up there in the Bay area are just as stupid as the Democrats who are ruining California.

What are you some big government conservative who wants to tell everyone how to run their lives. You probably were for the wars and for no restrictions on firearms. And don't want to fund social programs for families that are forces to have children they don't want. And you call use stupid. Wow!

TimeToEvolve says:
John did NOT compare Republicons to Nazis. What he said was their lies and propaganda (just like on Fox Keeps You Really Stupid Channel) is like the Nazi propaganda. And that is a hard truth to argue against.

The white wing wackos really have gone off the deep end. They have proven time and time again they do not care about the long term future of America. They do not care about American families at all. Who is stupid enough to vote for this crap?

Can we please stop comparing people to the Nazis?? Unless you are talking about David Duke or similar, it is just stupid.

There is plenty wrong with the Republican Party without resorting to this sort of nonsense.

The favored strategies of the Republican party are "fear" and "hate" to try to divide our country. Isn't this obvious?

ANY rank-and-file Democrat OR Republican who accuses ANYONE else of dishonesty should: 1)have their head examined. 2)be slapped in the face with a cold dead mackerel for being the world's biggest hypocrite. 3) be voted out of office for having such nerve to begin with.

Folks, NONE of these people have told the truth more than a few times in the span of their entire lives. These are politicians (mostly lawyers), professional liars! Wake up...

Quote from Ryan speech in NC: "What happens is, you pay your taxes, you send your money to Washington, and then special interest groups come and they get the little carve-outs in the tax code, and then if you do what Washington approves of, they might give you some of your money back. WE JUST WANT YOU TO KEEP YOUR MONEY IN THE FIRST PLACE."-----------------------------------

This is the EXACT same thing that Bush said over and over in his 2000 campaign.

Bush said: "We can reform the tax code, so that families can keep more of what they earn

Bush said: "Today, our high taxes fund a surplus. Some say that growing federal surplus means Washington has more money to spend. But they've got it backwards. The surplus is not the government's money. The surplus is the people's money. ====compare to Ryan's statement-------

Instead of using the surpluses to pay down the national debt republicans cut taxes, twice, resulting in a doubling of the debt, and an interest payout nearing $9 TRILLIOIN.
Stated simply; the Bush/Cheney tax cuts resulted in an actual tax INCREASE that keeps INCREASING every year.

On foreign Affairs Bush promised a humble foreign policy with no nation building. He had criticized the Clinton-Gore Administration for being too interventionist: "IF WE DON'T STOP EXTENDING OUR TROOPS ALL AROUND THE WORLD IN NATION-BUILDING MISSIONS, THEN WE'RE GOING TO HAVE A SERIOUS PROBLEM COMING DOWN THE ROAD. AND I'M GOING TO PREVENT THAT. ===== History speaks for itself.

Neither President Bush nor VP Cheney spoke at the republican convention yet Ryan wants to use the same campaign tactics that bush used in 2000.

Romney/Ryan will eliminate investment taxes:
The poorest fifth of Americans have an average of $25 in dividend income, while the richest fifth have $1,188

Why does Ryan want to repeat the bush tactic? The answer is simple; he knows there are many potential voters listening to his speech with extremely short or absent political memories and without the ability to see, or even think, past their noses.

We've tried trickledown economics for 3 decades. We've fallen for the Cut-taxes ruse for even longer.

You got pwned. Admit it and stop embarrassing yourself. Or will you have to go to the web for a link first? Anyone can get links from the web and (think) they sound knowledgable. I would love to debate sone of you dinks without the benefit of the web. I live for history, especially 20th century history. You would get crushed.
