(AP) HARRISBURG, Pa. — The Republican candidate for Senate in Pennsylvania is comparing the decision to abort an unwanted pregnancy resulting from premarital sex to one conceived through rape as he defends his opposition to abortion in all cases.

Republican Tom Smith is challenging Democratic Sen. Bob Casey.

Smith made the remark Monday after being asked how he would argue to keep the baby if a daughter or granddaughter were to become pregnant as a result of rape.

Smith says that his daughter went through "something similar" to rape — in his words, "Having a baby out of wedlock."

In the Senate race in Missouri, Republican candidate Todd Akin drew condemnation from Democrats and many Republicans when he referred to "legitimate rape" in discussing his stance against abortion in all cases.

Odd the someone would vote for republicans to run the country when they don't even know basic facts or care to know.

Pregnancy can result from consensual sex as well as from being forcibly inseminated during a rape. It is a matter of where the woman happens to be in her cycle. Biology 101. End of story.

So now you know why these pathetic morons are called Republiclowns. These primitive imbeciles actually think that rape is a form of procreation. These people are walking and driving all around you. Where did they come from? What do they want?

"No, don't get me wrong, it wasn't rape." Referring to his daughter's unexpected child. The Media is totally twisting his words here don't you get it!? I do think he's horribly wrong to not give the woman the choice in the case of rape- but abortions are absolutely evil if the woman has engaged in consensual sex. Mr. Smith I think was just explaining how happy they are that they kept the unexpected child alive.

Akin is NOT an anomaly this is incredible. That he would compare what was at least at the time a consensual sexual encounter. To an act of violence that really has nothing to do with sex other than its use as a tool of intimidation and degradation and torture. This shows that the republicans have an utter and total disregard for women as human beings, they do truly see them as nothing but animals whether bred intentionally or by accident doesn't matter. They should have no say so in the matter.

legalbutnotjust, maybe you can conserve that energy and spend it more wisely, when real issues are being discussed....going off on some wacky comment by a politician is misplaced.

Rather than a wacky comment by a politician it looks more like the main platform of the GOP. Completely off base and without fact.

Oh come on Tom, you know that according to GOP science she must have wanted to get pregnant or else she would have shut down her body. If she got pregnant her juices must have been flowing according to your fellow GOP "doctor types".

I'm not brainwashed George, I'm just paying attention!

You can't call me brainwashed when you know there are issues where I disagree with the typical Democrat or Liberal.

And if we sit down, shut up and ignore what they are attempting to push, they WILL push it thru! I don't intend to just sit here while they attempt to turn back the clock!
