(CBS News) Mitt Romney's selection of Paul Ryan as his running mate appears to have energized some likely voters in Ryan's home state of Wisconsin, according to a new Quinnipiac University/CBS News/New York Times poll.
As many as 31 percent of Wisconsin voters say Romney's pick of their native son makes them more likely to support Romney in the fall, according to the survey, conducted Aug. 15-21. Fewer (22 percent) say they would be less likely to do so while 45 percent say Ryan's selection makes no difference.
With Ryan joining Romney's campaign, the Republican presidential candidate has gained ground in Wisconsin, where President Obama now leads by just two points, 49 percent to 47 percent. The two-point lead is within the poll's margin of error.
"It seems like the pick of Paul Ryan has had some small beneficial effect for Mitt Romney," Peter Brown, the assistant director of the Quinnipiac poll, told CBS News' Bill Plante on "Face to Face".
Referring specifically to Wisconsin, Brown added, "Obviously, it's had some home-team effect."
It's official, Wisconsin: You're a swing state
CBS
The race has tightened in Florida, where Mr. Obama is leading 49 percent to 46 percent - equal to the poll's three-point margin of error. Romney holds a double-digit lead among seniors in the Sunshine State.
Mr. Obama has maintained his lead in Ohio, according to the poll, besting Romney 50 percent to 44 percent. The president enjoys a 13-point advantage among women and backing from young voters in Ohio, while Romney wins the support of independents and has an 8-point lead among seniors.
Few likely voters are undecided in these battleground states, and nine in 10 say their minds are made up. Only one in 10 says they could change their minds about who to support.
In all three of these battleground states, Republicans are more enthusiastic than Democrats about voting this year. Republican enthusiasm about voting has also risen from earlier this month.
no wonder the rethuglican party is in such a suck toe mess, if these two are considered choices, one who can barley decide if he needs to get up and go pee in the morning, without 12 people involved, and another extremist right wing-nut schizophrenic???? who believes women can turn off their cervix????????
as old as these clowns are it's too late to re educate them so put them in a place where they will not endanger the rest of humanity, a maximum security nut house and give em lots of Thorazine at least 5 times a day as needed for religiousextremistwingnutz
Perhaps you missed the headline? The most accurate predictions of Presidential elections since 1980 have come from a group at the University of Colorado. That group has correctly predicted both the popular vote and electoral outcome for every election since Reagan over Carter. Their analysis?? Landslide for Romney !!

BTW - If GM is successful - it is primarily because of what they already had in place before Obama was even nominated. All Obama did - after the finanacial crisis caused by liberals pushing subprime loans - was to botch the auto industry aid in ways that will cost GM customers for years - illegally diverting money from bondholders to pay off his union pals.

Romney will win Michigan. His father was one of the most honorable men to ever serve and Governor - and a brilliant businessman in his own right. Mitt Romney grew up in the Detroit area when his father was both an AMC CEO and a 3 term governor. It was a very pivotal time in Michigan history. In the 1950's and 60's - the Michigan and Detroit economy were the envy of the nation, and people like George Romney were a big part of the reason. Romney first made his name in Detroit during WWII - when he helped improve efficiencies at more than 600 auto related factories that were used for war production and the city became known as "The Arsenal of Democracy". George Romney's terrific job in this role gained him dozens of mentions in national publications like Time magazine. The string of success based on hard work continued for George Romney - through his leadership at AMC, where he saved the company from bankruptcy, and - having taken most of his pay in stock options at the struggling company - became very wealthy. After leading a group that re-wrote the state Constitution, George Romney ran for Governor - winning election to 3 straight terms - each win larger than the last. Unlike Obama - George Romney represented EVERYONE as governor - he didn't try to divide people - he even marched with black civil rights leaders in Detroit. Mitt Romney was there to see all of this. (Barack Obama's childhood was spent in part in Indonesia - attending a madrassa, and eating the dog meat, snakes, and grasshoppers fed to him by his stepfather - quite a contrast).
Shortly after George Romney's last term as Michigan governor, liberal Democrats took over the city of Detroit, and have had undisputed control ever since. They have preached a message of division and dependency - every problem that would arise was always "someone else's fault". 40+ years later - where is the once great city of Detroit? Teetering on the edge of bankruptcy -and a big driver in the following sad statistics for Michigan:
- Half of babies born in Michigan last year were to welfare mothers
- 43% of babies born in Michigan last year to single mothers
- 18% of babies born in Michigan last year to teen mother who already had at least 1 child
- 1 in 5 babies born in Michigan last year to mother without a high school diploma
- 45,000 babies born in Michigan last year onto the welfare rolls
- 47% of Detroit residents are functionally illiterate
This isn't a "black vs. white" thing - I'm pretty certain there are more white people on welfare in Michigan than blacks. What this is about are programs that "push" a life of dependency. It's about pushing a philosophy that de-values education (why improve yourself if your plight is because someone else has your money, or won't pay more in taxes), one that de-values personal achievement ("you didn't build that"). The results above are what happens when you get too many people to accept that "I need government to give me things" philosophy.

You should really worry more about the brewing scandal regarding Obama's handouts to his donors from Exelon.

While your at it - how about grabbing a copy of Obama's college transcripts? - you may find them in the "foreign exchange student" files
Is Ryan a human being? Does he really represent an entire party of inbreds? Are these people actually among us on the streets and in the schools? Man we are in trouble.
