(AP) PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Former major league baseball pitcher Curt Schilling, whose video gaming company recently collapsed, called the governor a "dunce of epic proportions."

Schilling, who won a World Series with the Arizona Diamondbacks and then two with the Boston Red Sox, criticized independent Gov. Lincoln Chafee in a Saturday exchange on Twitter about the collapse of 38 Studios, which got a $75 million loan guarantee from the state in 2010.

Schilling tweeted that "if the state loses money it's because the Governor is a dunce of epic proportions, nothing I can do about that."

In follow-up tweets on Monday, Schilling also called the governor a "buffoon" and called the prospect of him getting re-elected in 2014 "terrifying."

Chafee told WPRO-AM that Schilling's comments were "regretful."

Schilling's company laid off all its employees in May and filed for bankruptcy in June. Schilling had earlier blamed Chafee for public comments he made about the firm's solvency, accusing him of having an "agenda."

The ex-pitcher, who also played for Baltimore, Philadelphia and Houston, conceded previously that he himself was "absolutely" part of the reason the company failed.

Schilling who is a right winger is all about corporate welfare but complains when his managing skills caused the business to go bust.

No more loan guarantee from states or Federal government.

Why would the state give a loan guarentee to Curt Schilling's company in the first place?

Did he not have enough money already?

Could he not get a standard loan from a bank?

If the state loses money, they should go around a collect ever dime of it back from anything Schilling owns, just like a any bank would do.

Another conservative on a government payroll. Funny how when they make money, it's because they deserve it (even the trust fund babies), but when they lose money, it's someone else's fault.

Uh, Curt, 38 Studios failed not because of the Govna, but because you released ONE GAME THAT NO ONE WANTED TO PLAY! A fantasy, single player? Really?

But, being a republican is easy. Privatize the profits, socialize the losses, and never having to say you are sorry.

Teabaggers... sigh.

I'm surprised Shilling can come out in public after what he pulled on the taxpayers. Someone is going to bump this guy off. He is a hypocrite of the highest order with his preaching of personal responsibility and toting limited government to save the taxpayers money.

he got a 75 million dollar loan guarantee from the state in 2010 and his business still failed? it appears he is the problem if he can't make a go of his business with 75 million dollars and not the governor's fault. just because someone is a good ball player doesn't mean they are a good business person and the reverse also applies. schilling is a brainless individual and obviously can't take responsibility for his own failures.
