WASHINGTON - President Barack Obama has pitched in to help small businesses get into the holiday shopping season.

The president took his daughters, Malia and Sasha, along on a shopping run to a bookstore a few blocks from the White House.

He says he made the visit because it's "small business Saturday" and he wanted to support a small business.

Main Street's turn: Small Business Saturday

The retail industry is encouraging shoppers to patronize mom-and-pop businesses on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. It's a counterpoint to Black Friday and the sales and special deals offered by department stores and other large retailers.

The Obamas walked out with a selection of books including "The Invention of Hugo Cabret," "Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Cabin Fever" and "Descent into Chaos: The U.S. and the Disaster in Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Central Asia."

I'm wondering what is bothering President Obama's oldest daughter Malia. She is growing into a very lovely young lady, but at the sametime she has a very stoic like persona. I don't know why she seems to always lack any type of joy or happiness in herself when she is living the life of privilege being the daughter of our President. Life should be exciting, interesting, fun, adventurous or at least joyous in some kind of way for young ladies at Malia's age. Why do we need to wait until she is 30 or 40 years old when she has developed enough inner strength to finally come forth to address the problem that she is having right now? I suggest that we get Malia psychological help NOW! I know, in the future, she will be a very awesome woman but, right now, that development is being hindered... Somehow! Someway!

People aren't whining - they're exercising their right to deliver their opinion. They're showing just how frustrated the average American is with our ineffective and corrupt government. I'm fortunate enough to have a job, but I empathize with those who don't; who can't afford a roof over their head or food on the table. Many people have a right to be angry. The only bad thing about it is government turns a deaf ear to the average American so they can cater to giant corporate interests.

I wonder if he explained to the shop owners the logic of raising their taxes?

A lot of negative comments. I hope all of you followed the President's lead and supported small businesses today.

Let's see...obama goes into a small business, The SS has cleared the area , No one allowed within a 100' or so. obama spends $50 if he pays for the items at all. The store has lost money as obama does his campaign photo shoot. A real cheap shot
