Prosecutors Dispute Polanski Victim
Prosecutors are disputing claims by the victim in Roman Polanski's sex case that they failed to tell her of their effort to extradite the film director.
In court documents filed Thursday, the Los Angeles County district attorney's office denies allegations that it violated state law by not informing Samantha Geimer of its intentions to bring back Polanski so he can be sentenced. Prosecutors say they invited Geimer and her attorney to discuss the case, but the meetings never occurred.
Geimer's attorney, Lawrence Silver, has joined the defense's bid to have Polanski sentenced in absentia. A hearing is set for Friday.
The director is under house arrest as Swiss authorities weigh whether to extradite him to the United States. Polanski pleaded guilty to having sex with Geimer when she was 13.
His attorneys are seeking a sentence of time served, a request that Geimer supports.
