Duchess Kate braves the cold for Scouts training

The Duchess of Cambridge braved the elements when she visited a training event for Scout Association leaders and kids in snowy Cumbia, northwest England.

The former Kate Middleton joined adult volunteers as they worked with Beaver Scouts and Cub Scouts at the Great Scout Tower Camp.

Kate will pass on the skills she learned Friday to the Scout troop she volunteers with near her and Prince William's home in Wales, the Daily Mail noted.

The pregnant duchess, 31, wore a khaki jacket, rubber boots and a wool cap to keep her warm in the cold weather. Her outfit was accessorized with a Scout staple -- a red, white and blue neckerchief.

During the training event, she joined in making "dampers" or "twists," made from a dough of flour, water, oil and sugar that's cooked over a campfire.

According to the Daily Mail, she had taste-tested the treat and told the group: "Oh, its actually not bad. It is quite sugary though."

She also observed how to light a campfire and watched as children climbed trees during the session, before reportedly returning to London by train.
