The competition's youngest ever contestant Zendaya Coleman stole the show alongside pro partner Valentin Chmerkovskiy. The 16-year-old Disney star's barefoot contemporary dance won over the audience and warmed the heart of notoriously tough judge Len Goodman, who dished his best first-week praise with a hard won, yet simple "that was great." The couple danced away with three eights for the highest combined score of the night (24/30).

Comedian D.L. Hughley (aka Boogie Fantastic) brought the laughs to the ballroom floor but failed to impress the judges with his cha-cha-cha. Both he and pro partner Cheryl Burke took home a disappointing 12/30 (4,4,4) to earn the lowest cumulative score of the night and a scolding from the panel for their choppy routine.

It was a bummer to see most of the new pros scored so low because I am sure that they are more nervous than the celebrities. The comedians seem to be struggling, and I don't think that either of them will be with us much longer. I nearly missed the premiere because I am traveling for my job at DISH this week. The hotel TV has the eastern feed, and it was already over by the time I tuned in, but thankfully I was able to stream it from my DVR at home to my iPad with DISH Anywhere.

I agree about Derek and Kelli getting cheated. I think they think Derek is so good they try to level the playing field with lower scores. SO UNFAIR !!! If you are good, then let the others keep up. I think the judges are biased. Karianne disliked Max and found ways to poke at him. Max was not my favorite, but you could see the dislike on her face. I thought they were to nasty to Mr. Hugley. Put a little class back in the show. Take a cue from Tom. Even bad news is constructive....

I am not happy that DWTS puts a young professed 'hiphop dancer' up against non dancers. How is that fair and even fun? Not that much of a stretch to go from hiphop which takes a ton of ability to ballroom. It's so much more fun to watch the non dancers compete and continue to improve. She wont be getting my votes.

Hiphop is a long way from ballroom dancing, but I do agree with you. A person who does any kind of dancing for a living, should no be allowed to participate.

On season 14, Roshon Fegan had the same dancing background as Zendaya. They actually play siblings on the Disney channel show Shake It Up. Somehow, his hiphop background DID NOT HELP HIM AT ALL with the ballroom dances or the latin dances. He finished in 6th place; his dancing background did not help him at all. Zendaya's hiphop background won't help her unless she gets to the freestyle round or they include hiphop as a dance style on DWTS. Both Roshon and Zendaya stated that their dancing background was of no help for DWTS.

Kelly Pickler and Derek got cheated out of points because they were the first dancers. There is no way Dorothy Hamill and Alexandra Raisman gave an equal performance to Kelly. And there is definately no way that the dancers scoring 1, 2 or 3 points less than Kelly were even close to the performance she gave. I thought the judges were all about technique. I feel too many points were given for the "like ability" of the performance. The performance is judged by the audience. The judges need to make up for the point spread next week.
