"American Idol" reveals its Top 20

The 12th season of "American Idol" now has its Top 20 finalists.

On Wednesday's episode, five more guys were sent packing, firming up the final batch of singers moving on to the next phase of the competition.

I'm happy the show is finally down to the top 20 and I can't wait to see whose performance stands out next week. I'll be working a late shift at DISH when the episodes air next week though, so I can't watch them live. Luckily I'll be able to catch up using my DISH Hopper and I love that I never have to worry about setting timers since it automatically records all the prime time shows on FOX for me.

I have been a big fan of Idol since the very beginning but, this year I am disgusted with the whole thing. This has to be the worst lineup of singers the show has ever gathered. The notion that these were the 20 best singers they found out of the thousands who auditioned is a complete and utter farce. Simon got out at the right time, as this show is sinking into mediocrity fast and, I don't believe they will be able to survive this season and come back next year. The way they narrowed down to the top 20 was crazy. All of the good singers were placed in one group, so they sent good singers home because they had to keep the same amount from each group. Secondly, it is obvious that the producers are making a push to create an ethnically diverse show, at the detriment of the premise that these are supposed to be the 20 best singers that auditioned. I love Nikki Minage but her love of all things weird and quirky has allowed some singers to make the cut despite their utter lack of talent. This top 20 is a joke, no other way to say it. Yes, there are a few really talented singers but, for the most part, this top 20 stinks. Other than a handful of contestants who are head and shoulders above the others, I think this is a show that Sanjya could come out on top of -- ridiculous.
