Oscars 2013: Red carpet

Hathaway, the winner of best supporting actress, opted for a pink Prada gown, one that sparked a lot of "nipplegate" talk. But it wasn't her first choice. Hathaway, 30, released a statement Tuesday explaining what happened and apologizing for the "disappointment" she caused.

"It came to my attention late Saturday night that there would be a dress worn to the Oscars that is remarkably similar to the Valentino I had intended to wear, and so I decided it was best for all involved to change my plans," she told People.

"Though I love the dress I did wear, it was a difficult last minute decision as I had so looked forward to wearing Valentino in honor of the deep and meaningful relationship I have enjoyed with the house and with Valentino himself. I deeply regret any disappointment caused."

Joanna Coles, editor in chief of Cosmopolitan and a former mentor to the designers on "Project Runway: All Stars," said on "CBS This Morning," "Those are not her real nipples, but that's not the point. The point is, the first law on the red carpet is 'do no harm.'"

Hathaway, who was honored Sunday for her portrayal of Fantine in "Les Miserables," wore Valentino last fall at her wedding.

Did she actually apologize for being a Nippled-American? I'm sorry she felt she had to do that. I thought the dress was sweet. I love pink.

I liked the dress and do not see anything wrong with it. Anyone could tell the dress had darts. Much to do about nothing.

The phrase is "Much ADO about nothing." Otherwise, I agree with you.
