Taylor Swift sparks Twitter buzz with British accent

After Swift broke into a faux British accent during her Grammy-opening performance, several One Direction fans took to Twitter to voice their disdain at the apparent dig at one of the singer's former flames, One Direction member (and native Brit) Harry Styles.

The English-accented flourish came when Swift started speaking in the middle of an "Alice in Wonderland"-like performance of her Grammy-nominated song "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together." She attempted a British accent when she said, "So he calls me up and he's like, 'I still love you,' and I'm like, 'I'm sorry, I'm busy opening up the Grammys.'" Reaction was swift.

"Did Taylor Swift just do an English accent?" director Judd Apatow tweeted immediately after it happened.

Swift and Styles dated late last year, and Swift is known for referencing her ex-boyfriends in her music.

Just keep in perspective that Adele is only ONE year older than Taylor Swift, and Adele is infinitely more classy, talented, and universally respected.

I cannot even express how juvenile and grating I find Taylor Swift, and the fact that she airs her dirty laundry and insults her teenage ex-boyfriend to the world and calls this "music" is beyond me. I don't care for her contrived "America's Sweetheart" persona or mediocre singing ability. All she proves, to me, that fame and money can't buy class or dignity.

I completely agree. It is one thing to express your deepest emotions, your pain in personal relations in your art...look at Picasso. His art was meant for a small audience and most of the time meant just for himself. But crap, Taylor. She goes through too many boyfriends in short periods of time and then tells the world.

Next time she wants a boyfriend she needs to hand over a written contract that warns the intended that all may become public.

So what? I dialect in English all of the time when I want to speak English correctly. Would someone attempt to speak French with a German dialect? No. Americans should never attempt proper English without looking to the country from which it originated for proper pronunciation and spelling.

what's a "British accent" because the last time i checked not everyone in the uk spoke the same. that's just an ignorant stereotype. and no, the uk and england aren't the exact same thing. there're many different accents in the british isles(england, scotland, wales, ireland, northern ireland, isle of man, shetland islands, etc.) and if no one believes me you can talk to my friends that're actually from scotland.

I didn't think it was possible for Taylor Swift to get any more annoying than she already is..but, she has managed to do so. Her juvenile songs and her juvenile behavior, hoping from one boyfriend to another is just disgusting. She is certainly not a very good role model for the young teens that seem to think she is just awesome.

Taylor needs to grow up, move her music genre to pop, and get on with her life. I personally wouldn't care if I never, ever, ever, had to listen to another one of her crap songs.

The public needs a LOVE STORY enough with the WANEGBT...those who do not get the storyline may be getting tired of the rancor. you need to get out more. Swift is a sweet girl. who needs to grow up date her age or above. and sing songs about anything but her brake ups. if not what guy is going to date her.none she will keep dating boys and sing about them. I am to the point of when she comes on I change the station.
