"Mad Men" to return in April with a two-hour premiere

"Mad Men" will return April 7 with a two-hour episode to kick off Season 6, the Emmy-winning show's second-to-last season.

Creator and executive producer Matt Weiner spoke this week about what to expect this time around, but didn't give out too many details.

"This year it's really constructed like a film," he said, reports Entertainment Weekly. "It is its own story and hopefully it foreshadows the rest of the season...You should know what happened at the end of last season before you see the episode. The whole season is in reference to last season."

Last season, you may remember, ended with Don Draper (Jon Hamm) sitting at a bar alone when he's approached by a beautiful woman who asks, "Are you alone?" It's anybody's guess what his answer was, though. The credits rolled and we hear Nancy Sinatra singing the theme to the 1967 James Bond film, "You Only Live Twice."

"We're at the next stage of their lives and I think you really feel that," Weiner said. "I want to acknowledge the fact that the audience knows this man very well, so what he does is never going to surprise them. How he does it and why he does it should surprise them."

It's also unclear how much time will have passed by the time we meet the characters again this spring. All Weiner said was -- "It's more than a week, I'll tell you that."

The Season 5 premiere, titled "A Little Kiss," opened on Memorial Day 1966 with Megan Draper (Jessica Pare), performing memorable version of the French song "Zou Bisou Bisou."

The premiere episode begins at 9 p.m. ET April 7 on AMC. After that, "Mad Men" will air for one hour in its normal 10 p.m. time-slot for a total of 13 episodes.
