Miss New York wins Miss America crown

LAS VEGAS A 23-year-old contestant from Brooklyn, N.Y., has won the title of Miss America.

Mallory Hagan won the Las Vegas beauty pageant Saturday night after tap dancing to James Brown's "Get Up Off of That Thing" and answering a question about whether armed guards belong in grade schools by saying we should not fight violence with violence.

Hagan defeated Miss South Carolina Ali Rogers, who took second, and Miss Oklahoma Alicia Clifton, who finished third.

Miss New York is crowned Miss America

Hagan wins a $50,000 college scholarship and gets the crown for one year. Her platform was stopping child sexual abuse.

She is expected to spend her title reign on a nationwide speaking tour and raising money for the Children's Miracle Network, the organization's official charity.

No one really considers the other countries part of "America"... So it's irrelevant.


The other countries are not in "America". America refers to the United States of AMERICA. Canada is not in America, but in NORTH AMERICA. "America" is just a shortened form of saying UNITED STATES OF "AMERICA".

I was hoping Miss Montana would make it too; I know a teen girl who has Aspergers, and she was surprised when we showed her that this woman was like her too! It served to boost her self-esteem. I don't think we'll be seeing the last of Miss Montana though, she has a bright future ahead.

She was a lot cuter when she was younger. She's one of these girls with a normally heavy body type who went on a crash diet and exercise program - check out her swimsuit pic - she could probably kick a hole in the side of a barn right now - but after her year, and her pose in Playboy is over with, give her 3 years from now and she will probably look pretty frumpy.

If she changed her lifestyle to integrate exercise after another 2 years she would definitely look pretty hot.

You do know, don't you, that the Miss America competition deliberately avoids picking anyone who carries any sex appeal, because they want to immunize themselves against charges that it's just a beauty pageant?
