Miss America 2013 pageant caps week of contests

Fifty-three beauty queens are parading across the stage at tonight's Miss America pageant but not all of them have an equal shot at the title.

2013 Miss America Preliminaries

The young women, who represent all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands, have been competing and been judged in preliminary contests all week at the Planet Hollywood resort, where Saturday night's pageant is being held.

At least six have advanced closer to the crown as a result. They include talent contest winners: Miss Maryland Joanna Guy, a singer; Miss Oklahoma Alicia Clifton, a tap dancer; and Miss North Dakota Rosie Sauvageau, a singer and pianist.

Also in the lead are the three winners of the Lifestyle and Fitness contests: Miss Washington Mandy Schendel, Miss Illinois Megan Ervin and Miss South Carolina Ali Rogers.

The winner will be crowned at the end of the pageant, broadcast live on ABC, by the 2012 Miss America Laura Kaeppeler of Kenosha, Wisconsin.
