After Oscar host Seth MacFarlane and actress Emma Stone announced the Oscar nominations Thursday morning, many took to Twitter to weigh in on MacFarlane, who cracked jokes during the event giving viewers a preview of what the awards show could be like.

Unfortunately for the "Family Guy" and "Ted" creator, people were not pleased, particularly with a joke he made about Best Picture contender "Amour."

Seth MacFarlane jokes at Oscar nominations

"I read 'Amour' was co-produced by Austria and Germany," MacFarlane remarked to Stone. "The last time Austria and Germany co-produced something it was Hilter, but this was much better."

After he was greeted, later in the day, to lots of backlash on Twitter he decided to make a comment of his own on the social media site.

For some it wasn't just the Hilter joke, but all of his jokes that fell flat.

And the Oscar nominees are ...

Jessie David Fox wrote on New York magazine's blog Vulture about MacFarlane's attack on screenwriters who wrote adaptations.

"Diminishing an entire Hollywood profession doesn't work with the award show's earnestness, and it's also a pretty big boulder to throw at an event that exists to extol the genius of these very professions," he wrote.

Forrest Wickman wrote on Slate , "MacFarlane did not make a good first impression. In the less than 10 minutes it took to announce the nominees, MacFarlane managed to insult his co-presenter, belittle the achievements of several nominees, and make a Hitler joke."

The 85th annual Academy Awards are on Feb. 24 in Hollywood, Calif.

So Seth won't be asked back next year... Perhaps Ricky Gervaise is free. :)

It's an industry run by Jews... what do you expect to get by making a joke about Hitler? The jews can make jokes about gentiles, but don't think you can get away with anything that pokes fun at THEM...

Wow, Seth McFarlane is too smart for the room...So, he and Quentin Tarantino are the lone provocateurs? Sad, that no one else in Hollywood can make anyone feel or think...and sadder still that no one has noticed.

Anybody who knows anything about screenwriting knows that adapting something is difficult, sometimes even more difficult that writing an original screenplay. So the joke about adaptive screenwriting being as simple as cut-and-pasting was funny.

Not everyone has a 17 years old's sense of humor. These films deserve some respect and decorum. The problem is they asked Seth....what were they thinking? This is his Family Guy persona and probably not too far from real life persona.

Love Seth, the wilder the better. Knock it off with the politically correct nonsense. Seth is the rare comic in Hollywood. Intelligent, pokes fun at EVERYONE. I think all of his gay jokes, of which there are many, are hilarious....Keep up the great work, Seth!

Interesting that none of the "offended" were actual Hollywood/Oscar types. They were writers and critics for crying out loud!
And somewhere in Brazil, even Adolph laughed.

An idiot was invited to give speeches but when nothing came from him but idiocy are we supposed to be surprised? That's like inviting an untrained puppy into an house of antique rugs and setting him free. IMO his actual first name is 'Offensive' Seth...duh. Whoever selected him is the dummy.
