Police in Los Angeles have arrested "Criminal Minds" actor Thomas Gibson on suspicion of driving under the influence.

Officer Cleon Joseph says the 50-year-old Gibson was arrested early Sunday after he drove through a barricade set up to keep cars off the course of a night run through downtown. He was booked and released on $15,000 bail.

Sources told TMZ that police when stopped Gibson, they detected an odor of alcohol. The actor reportedly refused to take a breathalyzer test.

He also played one of the titular characters on the sitcom "Dharma and Greg." He also appeared on "Chicago Hope," and had a part in "Eyes Wide Shut."

A call to his representative was not immediately returned.

I love Thomas Gibson as an actor and was a bit disappointed upon hearing this. However, he is human and humans make mistakes. I am sure each one of us can count at least one stupid thing in our lives that we regret having done. Grant you, drinking and driving is indeed an extremely serious mistake and if this allegation is true, thank God that he was pulled over; thank God no one was hurt. I only pray that this opens his eyes, that he learn something from this error in judgement. This seems totally out of character for Mr. Gibson. However, I've noticed that he has seemed to change over the past few months, that he is not quite himself (But again we all go thru periods like this). Perhaps this incident is a silent cry for help. I hope that Mr. Gibson reflects on this and takes whatever steps are necessary to help himself, and his family. We care and wish him the best.

Not sure how you know this is out of character for Thomas Gibson unless you know him personally. Even then, most people still say it is out of character for someone they know that do this. The reality is that Gibson got CAUGHT this time. This isn't his first time driving under the influence. It never is. The average is 80 times before someone is caught and arrested. It's also not a mistake. Serious or otherwise. It is a choice. A selfish and criminal choice. People like him kill and seriously injure every day. In fact every second of every day. And others make excuses for them. Because DUI is a socially acceptable violent crime in this country. Because so many do or have done exactly what Gibson just got arrested for. And not all people that drive under the influence are alcoholics crying for help either - and that doesn't make it okay on any level anyway. Many are just selfish and don't care about anyone or the law. Thomas Gibson being one of them. Too many people are enamoured by celebrity.

Thank you for your reply Choices-Responsibility. Sorry, I do not know Mr. Gibson personally. However, I have followed his career over the years and thus my comment about this situation "being out of character." I did notice that he has changed somewhat over the past several months, lost a lot of weight, looks tied, gaunt - something just doesn't seem the same. Perhaps personal problems, health problems, overworked, overwhelmed, whatever. There's has to be more to this story. And all of us have been in this place at one time or another in our lives. No, it is not an excuse to go out and drink. But I don't think that anyone in this situation goes out to intentionally hurt or kill someone. Yes, they make a choice to drink - be it socially, for fun, to help forget, or maybe to help ease their pain. And then it can get out of hand and turn into something ugly, re: my comment that I'm glad that he got caught and that no one was hurt or killed. Perhaps he will learn a lesson and take action to correct what is wrong. He has been given another chance to do something about it. Some people don't get that cnance and have to deal with horrible consequences for the rest of their lives. I hope that from your comment "this isn't his first time driving under the influence" that you do know him personally and if this is indeed true, I hope that you can try to help him in any way that you can. If not, I hope that somehow, someway, someone else can reach out to him - or to anyone else in a situation as this - and offer their help and support. I don't believe that "many are just selfish and don't care about anyone or the law....that too many people are enamoured by celebrity." Sometimes people lose their way and need other people to listen and to support. I thank you again for voicing your opinions and I wish Mr. Gibson the best.
