As Rihanna's unofficial publicist I would like to clarify her remarks and posts. Rihanna has become frustrated with the constant stigmatization of cannabis consumers including herself and she felt like it was time to defend those who have been traumatized in any way for their cannabis consumption.

She wants her fans to understand that she believes responsible adults should be able to legally consume cannabis without fear of arrest, and that present laws are applied in a discriminatory manner with people of color accounting for a disproportionate number of total marijuana arrests.

Rihanna is an artist and a performer and while some criticize her cannabis views, it can not be denied that she is a strong female role model who exudes strength, confidence, and the independent spirit to speak the truth. The fact the she consumes cannabis does not impune her honor or credibility in any way, and those who who suggest otherwise are uninformed about cannabis, or are just trying to inflict undue pain so they can report a reaction.

If your idea of a role model is someone who is perfect, you are setting yourself up for disappointment. Rihanna's idea of a role model is someone who is kind, caring, honest, and dependable like a friend or family member. She doesn't pass judgement on their faults, she embraces the beauty of what they have to offer.

People are good role models because their actions touch other people, Rihanna has inspired thousands of young people and women to take charge of their lives and be proud of themselves. She is in fact a very good role model, and while she did not choose to be one, she understands that young people are influenced by her. Momentary glimpses of her mortality remind us that even good role models have flaws.

Add to that she is Jamaican, and is not obligated to hold to outdated American ideals.
