Donna Summer, Randy Newman, Rush to be inducted into Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's Class of 2013 will consist of Rush, Public Enemy, Heart, Randy Newman, Donna Summer and Albert King.

Disco diva Summer who died in the spring, and blues guitarist King, who died in 1992, will be getting the the honor posthumously. Lou Adler and Quincy Jones will both receive the Ahmet Ertegun Award for non-performers.

The eight were chosen from a shortlist of 15 nominees by the vote of some 500 members of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation, which includes past inductees. For the first toime, voters included some fans.

Joan Jett and the Blackhearts and rock band Deep Purple were among those snubbed. Also missing the cut were the Marvelettes, Procol Harum, German electronic music ground-breakers Kraftwerk rappers N.W.A, The Paul Butterfield Blues Band, Chic, and the Meters. Musicians are not eligible until at leasdt 25 years has passed from ther release of their first album or single.

The inductees were chosen by some 500 voters of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation, which includes past inductees, and for the first time this year fans were also allowed to vote.

Candidates for the Cleveland-based Hall of Fame must have released their debut album or single at least 25 years before 2012 to be eligible.

Induction dseremonies take place in April in Los Angeles.
