"Star Trek Into Darkness" trailer released

Trekkies have something to get excited over. The trailer for J.J. Abrams' upcoming "Star Trek" sequel, "Into Darkness," has been released.

The trailer gives a good first look at franchise newcomer "Sherlock's" Benedict Cumberbatch, who plays the film's villain.

"You think your world is safe. It is an illusion," Cumberbatch's voice states in the trailer. "A comforting lie told to protect you. Enjoy these final moments of peace. For I have returned to have my vengeance."

The trailer also reveals some familiar faces: Chris Pine as Kirk, Zachary Quinto as Spock, and Zoe Saldana as Uhura.

Tell us: What do you think of the first look at "Star Trek Into Darkness" ?

Come on, please don't get into each others hair over this. I will easily admit that I personally admit that I feel that the core of what made Star Trek, was how slow and more thoughtful some of the movies and most of the episodes were. It was more like, an adventure setting. In the modern Star Trek movies, we have a rollercoaster ride of Setpieces falling apart, exploding, and we take very little time for dialouge save the absolute minimum.

What I miss most about Star Trek is those moments of quiet. Minutes going by without a score playing in the background. Characters talking to each other, where not every single word is carefully weighed to get it maxed out to 'premium content' class. People do not talk naturally anymore. Because they're not talking casually anymore. It's actors that act like ... actors. Where it should be actors acting like the roles they're portraying.

And this is why it would be good to have a new series. Much more time for talking. This is part of the reason why I do not like the new movies. I don't see the new crew on a regular basis. Every time I see them now, they still feel like strangers whom I've just met. A series could turn this around. Have me feel like these were old friends, to begin with. And build ontop of that.

Don't know if I like it. Trailers are teasers anyway. I definitely want to see it. I always looked at Star Trek as a possibility for our future. All we have do do is make up our minds and go. The Universe is already there. Let's go see what's in it.

To clarify, the first episode of Star Trek, entitled "The Man Trap", premiered on 9/8/66. The unaired 1964 pilot for the series was entitled "The Cage", and starred Jeffrey Hunter as Captain Pike. It was later incorporated into the two part episode "The Menagerie", which first aired on 11/24/66.

Anyone else find it humorous that a star of this movie is named "Chris Pike"...when the very first (1962) pilot for the original show featured the Enterprise's commander, Captain Christopher Pike. ??? I think it's hysterical!

What's more hysterical is how wrong you are in everything you posted.
The actor who plays James Kirk, is Chris Pine. And the first show, which didn't even have Captain Christopher Pike, premiered in 1967. The pilot that featured Pike, wasn't shown until late in the series, in a two part episode called, The Cage.

This looks like an interesting, however, it's not a Star Trek movie. It's like any other generic action film with sci-fi underpinings.

Because there's no reason for an outcry. Star Trek needed a reboot and it was done well.

I agree and I an 60 yo watched the first show on it's original broadcast date and JJ has done a great job ...Rodenberry wanted a reboot and he got what he wanted, I am sure he is smiling, also went kicking and screaming to the reboot by my son and grumbled for 40 minutes ...then I went ohhhhhhhhhhhh great story line...... could not wait for this and I am sure from what I see it's going to be a fun ride

Abrams SAVED Star Trek...no way a new generation buys into what Star Trek morphed into via a decent TV franchise at best and tiring movies...its the VISION of Roddenberry that endured...and it needed a shot of adrenaline to continue his vision....same as will be done with the Star Wars franchise now via Disney....Lucas KNEW a new chapter and approach was needed

The reason there's no "outcry" is because Abrams' made an excellent movie, and effectively resuscitated an increasingly moribund mythology! I'm a huge Trek fan, and am really happy that he was able to bring vitality and new fans to characters who are close to my heart.
