California prosecutors have filed charges against Lindsay Lohan over a car crash on a coastal highway earlier this year. The latest charges come just hours after Lohan was arrested for a separate alleged assault incident in New York.

Santa Monica Sgt. Richard Lewis says the car crash charges were filed Thursday morning. The Santa Monica City Attorney's Office charged Lohan with willfully resisting, obstructing or delaying an officer in the course of duty; providing false information to an officer; and reckless driving. All are misdemeanors. A court date has not been set.

Lindsay Lohan arrested for alleged assault

The filing comes nearly six months after the actress crashed her Porsche into the back of a dump truck while on her way to a movie set.

Lohan's attorney did not return messages seeking comment.

The case could trigger a probation violation for Lohan, who remains on informal probation in California for a necklace theft.

Lohan was arrested Thursday in New York City after police say she hit a woman during an argument at a nightclub. Arrested at 4 a.m. on charges of third-degree assault, she left a police precinct nearly four hours later with a black jacket pulled over her head. She was wearing leggings, a green mini dress and high-heels, and drove off in a black SUV with a driver, a woman and another man who was seen going in and out of the precinct.

She allegedly got into the spat with another woman at Club Avenue, in Manhattan's Chelsea section. She struck the woman in the face with her hand, police said. The woman did not require medical attention.

According to The New York Daily News, the alleged victim is Tiffany Eve Mitchell, 28. The paper reports that she was questioned and released without charges. As for Lohan, police gave her a desk appearance ticket for misdemeanor assault. She has a reported Jan. 11 court date scheduled.

Us Weekly reports that before the arrest Lohan was at the Justin Bieber concert at Madison Square Garden with her younger sister Ali Lohan, 18.

The arrest is Lohan's latest brush with law enforcement in New York City.

Lohan remains on informal probation for taking a necklace from a jewelry store without permission last year. That means she doesn't have to check in with a judge or probation officer but could face a jail term if arrested again.

She was involved in a NYPD investigation in September after alleging a man had assaulted her in a New York hotel, but charges against the man were later dropped.

Also in September, the actress was accused of clipping a man with her car outside another Manhattan nightclub, but prosecutors chose not to move ahead with charges.

In October, police were called to her childhood home on Long Island after a report of a fight between her and her mother. An investigation revealed "no criminality."

Her latest film, "Liz & Dick," in which she portrays screen icon Elizabeth Taylor, premiered on Lifetime on Sunday.

Lohan also recently filmed "The Canyons," an indie film written by "Less Than Zero" and "American Psycho" author Bret Easton Ellis.

She won't do any time until it is to late. She'll get drunk, hit a car and kill people, maybe then she'll be given time behind bars.

Based on her history, it's clear there are two sets of laws.

One for celebrities (regardless of what they do to get to that status) and one for the working class, whose money is (recklessly?) spent in return for their antics on screen, stage, field, or recording studio.

She will never get justice. She has money and wooks vewy pwetty. That's all that counts in our new normal.

At some point she will run out of probation options and windup in an extended stay in a jail. If she things that two weeks in an LA jail is bad, the wait until she gets two years in state prison. She will find that the other inmates will not care if she was a sucessful actress.

She is an easy target and should be careful about her appearances, as an alcoholic, she must stay on the wagon or face being rolled over.

Another day, another debacle for poor little Lilo. For those keeping score, that's three disasters since this past weekend: 1.) Liz & Dick, 2.) arrested for catfighting in a nightclub, and 3.) formal charges for her obvious lack of driving skills.

What will tomorrow bring, in the ongoing saga of The Young and the Talentless?

To make us feel envy and jealous because she has money. Isn't that what it's always about, in one form or another?
