LOS ANGELES The NBC series "Community" will finish the season without Chevy Chase.

Sony Pictures Television said Wednesday that the actor is leaving the sitcom by mutual agreement with producers.

His immediate departure means he won't be included in the last episode or two of the show's 13-episode season, which is still in production.

Chase had a rocky tenure playing a bored and wealthy man who enrolls in community college. The actor publicly expressed unhappiness at working on a sitcom and feuded last year with the show's creator and former executive producer, Dan Harmon.

The fourth-season premiere of "Community" is Feb. 7, when it makes a delayed return to the 8 p.m. EST Thursday time slot. The show's ensemble cast includes Joel McHale and Donald Glover.

I'm glad to see Chevy Chase is finally "dropping out" of Community. It doesn't seem like he every really wanted to be on the show. My coworker at DISH and I hope that Chase's departure will mean Dan Harmon will come back. When the new season premieres in February I'll check it out on my DISH Hopper. It has PrimeTime Anytime which will automatically record the four major networks during prime time every day so I don't have to set individual show timers to catch everything. I know most of season four has already been filmed, but hopefully Community will be renewed for season five without Chase.

Chevy Chase has made a career out of vastly overestimating his artistic talent, then throwing temper tantrums when he's not given what he thinks he deserves. I would think people would avoid hiring him at this point, but it's Hollywood. The universal laws of work that govern all of us poor schmucks do not apply there.

He probably wants to try to have a late night talk show.

What does it mean when people who are on the show don't even like it?
