Young girl tells Pippa Middeton: "I hate princesses"

Apparently, not everyone is a fan of royalty.

Pippa Middleton, the younger sister of Kate, Duchess of Cambridge, heard this for herself while speaking with a group of children during an event to promote her new party-planning book, "Celebrate."

Middleton, 29, was doing a craft project with youngsters at the event when she told a 6-year-old tomboy, "I bet when you're 10, you'll love pink and you'll love princesses."

That caused another little girl to state, matter-of-factly: "I hate princesses."

Middleton laughed off the remark and said, "I don't know about that one."

Her book, "Celebrate: A Year of British Festivities for Families and Friends," was released in the U.K. on Oct. 25 and will arrive on U.S. bookshelves Tuesday.

Children have no burdens when it comes to voicing their Truths. This little one told the Truth. I doubt she meant to attack the Duchess of Cambridge, I believe she instead was attacking the image of pink madame princesses. She voiced a Truth...a harsh brutal Truth that every parent should tell their little daughters: Barbie "princesses" are superficial sexualized limitations to any girl.

Look around, every ad and every stereotype tells girls that they are "princesses"...the worst examples are Snookie and every Orange County bimbo who grew up wanting to be a spoiled pink princess.

I say good for this little one.

'Hate' is a strong word but I don't know why we should be so enthralled with princesses either. America's (and Britains) obsession with royalty is ridiculous, especially considering what America went through to get out from royal rule. Royalty by birthright in this day and age boggles my sensibilities, no matter what they look like. Just a bunch of hoopla for nothin' - they're just people!

What is wrong with you MATT6052! 6 year old girls don't have sexual preferences, most don't even have a grasp on what sex is yet! The fact that you would attribute one to her is sick and illustrates exactly what's wrong with how we treat little boys and girls. Just because she doesn't conform to standard gender roles at play time doesn't mean that she won't when she hits puberty and even then, if she never wears a dress or pink and plays sports, that doesn't mean she's a "bull ****"! My fiances favorite items when he was a boy was a doll and red cowboy boots and he is very much into the ladies. My favorite toy was my Thundercat's sword and I'm definitely not a lesbian, even thought I tried really hard in college. Sexuality is a scale, and a lot of things can affect it over a life time, but to call a 6 year old a bull **** for not liking pink or princesses says a lot more about you than these little girls. Can we please STOP sexualizing and stereotyping our children!

This brat hasn't been properly reared by her parent(s) to keep their mouth shut in public and behave. She may hate princesses, but I definitely hate brats like this.

Why is everyone attacking the "tomboy" when it was a DIFFERENT child who said she hates princesses?

She's on the right track baby, she was born that way.

There's not much Pippa could do because she can't tell the girl that the world is a much more tolerant place for lesbians than it was generations ago. So she has to pretend that the girl's conduct is a phase, not a sexual preference. The PR folks don't have an instructional video for how to handle a six year old bulldyke, if that disparaging term is a permissible.

No need for a disparaging term. The little girl is whomever she is - right now, she just doesn't want the frilly stuff. She may be a tomboy, as are many little girls her age. At her sweet and tender time, there is no need to make any kind of assumption or call her hurtful names - or assign any kind of label. She is a lovely little girl and that's enough for now. Whatever comes later in her life, may she be free to be herself and love whomever she loves. Should be easy enough if people would just stop judging.

Naturalgirl, Your thinking violates liberal ideology on when sexual orientation is determined. Liberals believe that sexual orientation is determined before birth and cannot be changed. Furthermore, there is no harm in calling her what she is. It's like calling a black person black, or a female female. As for identifying her as a bulldyke, a disparaging term, I don't know of any other word that describes an unusually masculine lesbian in a polite way. It is also, in context, acceptable to use a disparaging term when a person expresses hatred of others.

I'll allow that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but this beholder thinks she can be one. In this picture, no less.

Look around. There are a lot to people that the world doesn't recognize--most of us, in fact. If her sister weren't married to a prince, she might not be famous, but she would still be something and that something might be interesting to people that know her. That is true of a lot of people.

Cute story.
