(CBS News) Jason Aldean took to his Facebook page Sunday night in the wake of recent cheating scandal reports.
The country singer, who's been married to his high school sweetheart for 11 years, was photographed last Wednesday getting close to season 11 "American Idol" contestant Brittany Kerr at a California bar. TMZ posted the photos, and Aldean has decided to address the reports, telling fans he wanted "to talk to you directly, so you were hearing the truth from me and not just reading allegations made about my personal life on gossip web sites."
Aldean wrote, "The truth is that I screwed up. I had too much to drink, let the party get out of hand and acted inappropriately at a bar. I left alone, caught the bus to our next show and that's the end of the story. I ultimately ended up embarrassing my family and myself. I'm not perfect, and I'm sorry for disappointing you guys."
The country singer thanked fans for their support, noting he's working through the situation "privately" with his family. Aldean and his wife, Jessica Ussery, have two children together.
Aldean is up for three CMA awards this year, including entertainer of the year. He's also set to perform at the ceremony, scheduled for Nov. 1, in Nashville, Tenn.
