Former Secretary of State Colin Powell's Facebook page was hacked for a short time on Monday.
The hackers posted scathing remarks, including what appears to be an insult to President George W. Bush.
"Dear Friends, as most of you realize, my fb page has obviously been hacked. I'm sorry you have to see all the stupid, obscene posts that are popping up. Please ignore as we are working with fb to take care of this problem. I appreciate your patience," Powell told followers on Facebook.
Whistle blowing blog the Smoking Gun alleges that attackers were the same party that breached the email accounts of President Bush and his family. The site reported that the hacker posted screenshots of the Bush email hack on Powell's page.
The security blog Naked Security speculates that Powell's password was likely compromised, but how it was hacked is anyone's guess.
Powell appears to have taken his account back with the help of the social network.
"Dear Friends, I'm happy to report that the hacking problem has been fixed. We have been working with fb this morning and they took immediate action to remedy the situation," Powell posted on Facebook.
