Gmail, Google Drive, Chrome experience outages

Several Google services, including Google Drive, Mail and Talk went down Monday. Users have also reported outages of the Chrome Web browser. 

"We are currently experiencing an issue with some Google services. For everyone who is affected, we apologize for any inconvenience you may be experiencing," Google said in an email to CBS News.

"We're investigating reports of an issue with Google Mail. We will provide more information shortly," Google said on its status dashboard at 12:30 p.m. ET.  By 1:10 p.m. ET, services were reported to be restored. 

At 2:37 p.m. ET, Google posted this update on Google Mail services:

On Monday, 10 December 2012, we experienced an issue with Gmail and some users experienced slow performance or errors. For everyone who was affected, we apologize - we know you count on Google to work for you, and we worked hard to restore normal operation for you. Although our engineering team is still fully engaged on investigation, we are confident we have established the root cause of the event and corrected it. Our current best estimate is that a significant subset of users' Gmail web queries were affected for an aggregate of 18 minutes, from ~08:54 - ~09:00 and then from ~09:04 - ~09:16 Pacific Time.

Following the Google Mail outage, it appeared that while users were receiving emails, they could not sign on to Google Talk. Google Drive and Chrome were also experiencing service disruptions.The Next Web reports that people signed into their Google accounts on Chrome reported crashes. 

Google's status dashboard reports that Google Drive is back up now.

"We're investigating reports of an issue with Google Drive. We will provide more information shortly," Google said at 12:42 p.m. ET. However the search giant reported the problem with Google Drive was fixed at 12:45 p.m. ET.

There is currently no news on the status of Chrome browsers that are signed in to Google accounts.

The bigger problem with Drive is that even though people have been complaining for months and months about the speeds of downloading via drive vs dropbox, amazon services etc, customers have not gotten any adequate response from google or a fix for the incredibly slow speeds using this service. What the drive team is telling itself and others (3MB download speeds) are incredibly inaccurate. I am on a thread that has been in existence for 9 months and still no progress. I want to use this product, but it is a debacle.

That is why I prefer Bing, yahoo mail, and good ol' fashioned Internet Explorer. Actually that isn't why but you get my point

Drive was up briefly, but seems to be down again for me. Talk still hasn't returned.
