Steve Jobs remembered in emotional Apple video

Apple paid tribute to its late co-founder Steve Jobs Friday on the anniversary of his death.

The company posted an emotional video filled with quotes of Jobs announcing some of Apple's biggest product launches on its homepage. The video closes with Jobs outlining Apple's core philosophy.

"It's in Apple's DNA that technology alone is not enough. It's technology married with liberal arts, married with the humanities that yields us the results that makes our heart sing," Jobs said.

Jobs was known for trying to marry technology and design. The company made a splash when it introduced the iMac in 1998, with its bright colors and round body. Apple repeated its success with the iPod, iPhone and iPad - all praised for sleek, modern designs.

Jobs died on Oct. 5, 2011 at his home in Palo Alto, Calif. The cause of death was respiratory arrest as a result from pancreatic cancer spreading to other organs. He was 56 years old.

Apple chief executive officer Tim Cook wrote a letter remembering Jobs and reinforcing his spirit and vision.

Read Cook's full letter below:

Steve's passing one year ago today was a sad and difficult time for all of us. I hope that today everyone will reflect on his extraordinary life and the many ways he made the world a better place.

One of the greatest gifts Steve gave to the world is Apple. No company has ever inspired such creativity or set such high standards for itself. Our values originated from Steve and his spirit will forever be the foundation of Apple. We share the great privilege and responsibility of carrying his legacy into the future.

I'm incredibly proud of the work we are doing, delivering products that our customers love and dreaming up new ones that will delight them down the road. It's a wonderful tribute to Steve's memory and everything he stood for.

Tim

Marketers love to play mind games and be celebrated as somehow being better - even when they don't deserve to be celebrated.

He stole from Android, while claiming Android stole from Apple. Which is ironic, as if Xerox had won its lawsuit over Apple stealing from Xerox... Xerox merely made the mistake of not being the original patent thug... assuming the laws were as loose then as they are now... never mind this person admitting in front of a camera, gleefully saying how the best artists steal (e.g. he admitted his own guilt)... yeah, he hated Android and any other competition, but his hypocrisy was deplorable.

The same company patented the digital version of a slide lock for crying out loud. Apple, in patenting the work someone else created and then made an analogue of, is who is stealing. Sorry.

I could cite a zillion sources but most people know the man was an insecure, childish diva who exploited everyone he could. Look up the issues at Foxconn for more... but, hey, Foxconn helped him go from a 40% profit margin to 60% or more. Why should he care?

(and given the corporate welfare they take, since our country can't afford anything anymore, but before I digress...)

(the leeching goes back to his college days... "stay hungry" and "stay thirsty"? Not for him, and at others' expense. As usual.)

He's no hero.

To anybody.

He was just another selfish corporate leech, and a massively whiny and entitled one at that. Even during his college days...

That depends on whom you ask, and the context therein.

To this day, Apple's products remain insecure (even the firewall is disabled by default)... his spin in saying Macs were more secure because they did not get WINDOWS malware was pretty sleazy as well; I've been on Mac forums trying to inform people that Macs are not impervious. PWN2OWN being a great resource as well; un-jailbroken phones can be hacked - as in stealing SMS data, and not just the ability to jailbreak a phone by going to a website and clicking a button on it...

Anyone with rudimentary technical knowledge would have their heart sink.
